Western Kentucky has been keeping tabs on 6'8 wing Jamel King out of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. King left at Paul W. Bryant High School (Cottondale) during his senior year to go to prep school at Bella Vista College Preparatory (Scottsdale, AZ). He’s now a member of the class of 2021. Jamel, who just grew two inches in the past year, told me that he can play both forward and guard, but feels more comfortable at the guard spot.

The schools that are showing the most interest at this time include Western Kentucky, Tulsa, Murray State, Tennessee State, Wyoming, and Iowa State.

I was able to speak to Jamel about his relationship with class of 2021 WKU commit Keshawn Murphy, “Keshawn and I have a good relationship. We have been playing on the same grassroots program for years now. He is a really talented player and a great person to be around.”

While no formal offer has been made, King stays in contact with WKU’s coaching staff as assistant Hennssy Auriantal is his main contact at WKU. As Jamel continues to grow, so does his game and the list of colleges interested in his services continues to get longer. 24/7 Sports and Rivals both currently list Jamel as a 3-star recruit and 24/7 ranks him as the 6th best prospect in the state of Alabama.

The Toppers have been busy in the state of Alabama in recent months, gaining a commitment from the aforementioned Keshawn Murphy as well as offering elite point guard JD Davison. King could add some high-level athleticism and size to a 2021 class that includes Murphy and Zion Harmon. With four to five spots on the roster set to become available after the 20–21 season, King is a name to keep an eye on moving forward.
