#12: Muluc Pax
Definitely one of my top bands that play music revolving on Mesoamerican culture.

Muluc Pax was one of the first groups I came across that employed instruments from Central America. Their playing style is ultra-heavy, incorporating elements from death metal, prog (math), hardcore (apart from those mentioned above), and in turn blending these with native percussions and aerophones — which I think are Mayan in provenance. The resulting music emits a very aggressive aura that has overtones of ominosity, particularly whenever the winds come up dissonantly in the songs.
Favorite Album:
- Suut Ki’in — the album has a “second part”, which contains instrumental tracks that extensively feature the ethnic instruments.
Favorite Songs:
- IK (Muluc Pax, 2005)
- Condemned (Suut Ki’in, 2012)
- Offering to the Sea (Suut Ki’in, 2012)
