Ego Fall is the very first band I discovered that combines metal and Mongol folk music. When first heard The Spirit of Mongolia (from the album of the same name), I almost went nuts out of pure excitement and intrigue over the use traditional throat singing.

Fast, thrashy, and heavy riffs blend perfectly well with the morin khuur and throat singing, as well as other folk elements and instruments. The band’s music appears to more aggressive compared to others of the same genre; their vocal style includes growls side-by-side with clean vocals. I like that they contrast with the other bands so that Mongolian folk metal as a whole is diverse in itself.

Favorite Albums:

  • Inner M (2010)
  • Duguilang (2013)

Favorite Songs:

  • Brave Heart (Inner M)
  • The Spirit of Mongolia (The Spirit of Mongolia, 2008)
  • Fighting for the Faith (Jangar, 2014)
