Svartsot are masters in the use of medieval European melodies; in fact, this peculiar folk element is the main distinguishing characteristic of their music. They play these “templates” (sometimes simultaneously) using both the modern instruments and folk instruments such as flutes, bagpipes, and mandolins . Aggressive distortions and growls on the metal side complete their signature sound, which ultimately makes them an outstanding folk metal band.
