If thrash metal has a Big Four, Mongolian folk metal has its own, with Tengger Cavalry completing the set, along with Suld, Ego Fall, and Nine Treasures. Tengger Cavalry’s music, though has a signature darkness to it, through the use of growls, alongside throat singing.

Nevertheless, Mongolian folk metal’s iconic quality of simultaneously showcasing the contrasting qualities of metal and folk music is ever present. Though instruments like the mongolian lute, khel khuur, and tuur frame drum used by the band sound generally neutral, the masterful playing of the morin khuur is the key element that makes Tengger Cavalry’s music notably epic and uplifting.
