One of the first acts I encountered from the Middle East, and the first out of Iran, Golpayegani’s exquisite instrumentals contain a perfect blend of progressive metal’s highly technical qualities and folk elements in the form of rhythmic melodies and to a less extent, instruments. This fusion can be best observed from full-length albums Six (2012) and Nine (2022) as well as the EP Three (2009).
Fascinatingly, Golpayegani names his albums and tracks with numbers, the reason of which, according to a site, is that the artist wants his listeners to focus on the music itself and no other else. The last three albums, though, broke away from this trend — tracks now have unique titles. I’m all hands down to this guy. Besides being a highly talented musician, he is also a visual artist, who designed his own album art.
