This band is proof that metal is so flexible, it can even fuse with indigenous Brazilian music. Arandu Arakuaa is special.

Of all the South American folk metal bands I have encountered so far, most of which feature folk aspects provenanced from the Andes, this outfit breaks that trend by incorporating elements from ethnic groups from the Amazon basin. That’s why I was extra stoked when I discovered their music.

The band’s highlight quality are lyrics and chanting styles derived from the Tupi-Guarani languages. These elements, along with ethnic percussions meld perfectly well with their dark and foreboding metal style. On the other hand, they also have unusual tracks that have softer elements and reflect latino influence especially through the incorporation of the viola caipira.
