Finding something to write about can be difficult even on the best of days.

We could spend hours attempting to overcome writer’s block. We might get a few ideas here and there, small seeds of ideas.

One thing that helps me write when I have no ideas is a simple writing prompt.

Prompts help spur creativity by placing limits on the freedom you have to write about anything and everything— you don’t have to worry so much about getting lost in the infinite.

Prompts add focus to your writing, which is very useful when learning the ins-and-outs of writing for audiences and yourself.

You see this in education. Remember when you had English Composition in high school?

Your teacher had you read an article or part of a book. Then they’d either have you write a report or analysis about what you just consumed. There’d be questions, and you’d answer in a Socratic kind of way.

Writing prompts, when combined with community, create something more — a shared experience around a topic. They’re conversations that echo among the writers…
