Who doesn’t love a good makeover?

I think I’ve found my side hustle niche.

I’ve been trying to consolidate my side hustle ideas into a particular space or interest, but with so many ideas buzzing around my head, the dots weren’t connecting.

Then with a quiet afternoon to myself, I realized the common thread of my interests and ideas: they’re flips!

Most of these ideas require a small amount of money upfront, like buying a cheap domain name or vintage handbag. Next, you commit a sizable time investment to revamp the asset so it gains value: sell ads on the blog, refurbish the bag. Finally, if your efforts are successful, you’ll earn an exponential return on your investment — just like a house flip!

As a kid, I loved watching makeover shows like What Not to Wear and Extreme Makeover Home Edition (and still do, where are my Queer Eye fans?) so it makes sense why so many of my hopeful money-making plans include some form of a makeover.

For now, I’m attempting to monetize a couple of blogs and resell clothes on Poshmark or Depop (jury’s still out on which is better, but I think one of them will soon eat up Mercari). Eventually, I would love to help people reorganize their closets and homes. My ultimate side-hustle dream is to buy a house in Joshua Tree to rent on Airbnb, allowing me to own a vacation home that pays for itself — obviously this requires the most capital, so I probably wouldn’t do it until I’ve paid off my student loans.
