What is better than painting? Sipping while at it.

You may have seen pictures of social painting parties, also called sip and paint like this one hosted by Social Makers Africa every other month. Sip and paint parties are exactly what they sound like — a party where everyone paints and drinks. They are a fun way to get together with friends while being creative and loading up on the bubbly. They are also a unique theme for birthdays, kids’ parties, showers, or really just for a relaxing afternoon with your besties.

Thinking of hosting your own paint party with friends? You can do so by following these really simple steps. Just make sure you are painting as much as you’re sipping. 😉

  1. First things first, you’ll need a venue: You’ll need a place with enough space for paint supplies, snacks and drinks. You can rent out a section in a restaurant, host it in a park, or even in your home if you have a large backyard or parking space.

2. Invites: Whether you plan to make this event free, invite-only, or paid, tix.africa is an online ticketing tool you can use to create, share your event, and collect payments. You can customize your event page, personalize your ticket email and we’ll remind your guests about the event 48 hours before the day! All you need is an email address to get started. 🤩

3. Art supplies: You’ll need easels, 9 in. x 12 in. canvases, brushes, paint, and aprons. You can pick these up yourself at an art store or have them delivered to you when you buy online. Check out this art supplies store we found on Instagram. Red drinking cups filled with water can be used for cleaning the brushes. Make sure to label these cups so people don’t accidentally drink the wrong liquid. 🙃

4. Setting up: Depending on how many guests you are expecting, you will need a long table and chairs with a ratio of 5- 6 people per table. The more guests you have, the more tables and chairs you’ll need. You don’t want to have too many people on a table because the painters need enough space in their workstations for art supplies and drinks.

5. Table cloths: Because not only will there be paint spills, wine can easily find its way onto the table as well. An easy hack is to spread old newspapers or plastic wrap on the tables. You may also want to have some kind of floor covering underneath the painting areas.

6. Food: It is a good idea to have finger food and snacks to munch on to give your guests the needed energy to flex their artistic abilities.

7. ALCOHOL: It’s called sip and paint for a reason. You can have options for red or white wine and even champagne if you’re feeling fancy. Also, have a couple of nonalcoholic options like juice and mocktails. Make sure to have plenty of water as well.

*Pro-tip: Save yourself the hassle and use custom fields in the tix.africa ticketing tool to ask your guests their cocktails or mocktails of choice. Have these delivered on the day in on-the-go drink pouches. Holla at Quacktails or ShayoBar for this service. 🍾 🍹

8. Tutorial: You can either have an art instructor to guide you and your guests through the painting process, have the canvases pre-drawn at the art store, or simply play a tutorial on YouTube for all to follow.

9. Music: Don’t forget to have soft music playing in the background to help set the mood and keep the party lively. 🎵
