Kit reveals are an important ritual for a new season. Here’s my rating of the home and away jerseys of all 20 Premier League teams.

Arsenal

The Adidas shoulder stripes, blue accents on the sides, crewneck collar, sponsor logos, and the cannon crest integrate seamlessly into a very presentable home jersey. 4/5. Like last season, the away jersey will split opinion. At least that one grew on people. With a color palette more suited to engine oil cans, this one won’t. It’s ugly. 1/5.

Score: 5/10

Aston Villa

The ribbed collar with pinstripes, shoulder stripes and woven badge give the Adidas home jersey a clean design. 3.5/5. Away jersey not yet released.

Score: 3.5/5

Brentford

Brentford recycle their home jersey from last time. Kudos to them, but still not a fan of black gradient on the jersey. I’ll recycle my rating. 2/5. The away jersey is fashionwear. Ribbed collar with buttons, excellent color combination and navy trim on cuffs, neat logo placements, everything comes together very beautifully. 4.5/5.

Score: 6.5/10

Bournemouth

The traditional red and black combines well with gold pinstripe and details, to give a smart and shiny look to the home jersey. 4/5. The purple and green chevron pattern is too fuzzy, giving the away jersey an incoherent look. The 90s “Pizza kit” it’s inspired from was better. 2/5.

Score: 6/10

Brighton and Hove Albion

The home jersey’s five blue stripes and fading white pinstripes give it a sleek and sophisticated look. The logo also fits in seamlessly. 5/5 ⭐️. The away jersey is striking. The “university yellow,” like Sweden/Ikea, contrasts beautifully with the navy pinstripes and collar trim. The logos and crest are integrated seamlessly, accented by the white Nike logo. 5/5 ⭐️

An exemplar, and benchmark, for great kit design.

Score: 10/10 🏆

Chelsea

The home jersey’s design resembles a Milky Way chocolate wrapper, yet it remains cohesive, with the orange accents on the logos and cuffs enhancing its charm. 4/5. The orange and blue trim and stylish collar of the away jersey contrasts nicely with the off-white base. Somehow feels out of place for a football jersey though. 4/5.

Score: 8/5

Crystal Palace

Captivating home jersey. The repeating eagle pattern gives it an electrifying feel. The red, white and blue trims on the collar and further polish. 4.5/5. The away jersey comes in beautiful yellow, with the trims and eagle on ball motif revealing a thoughtful design. 4.5/5.

Score: 9/10 👔

Everton

The Castore smart home jersey features a printed crewneck collar, tidy sponsor logo placement, and a tonal print that deconstructs elements of the badge, adding variety. 3.5/5. The appeal of the ribbed collar, jacquard design, raglan sleeves and neatness of the away jersey is nullified by the awful charcoal colour, and the bizarre minimalist crest. 2.5/5.

Score: 6/10

Fulham

The buttoned polo collar lifts the appeal of this traditional and simple Adidas template home jersey, only to be let down by unnecessary red accents on the sides. 3/5. A simple yet cohesive away jersey features the “inverse” colors of red and black in a striped pattern, reminiscent of designs from the past. 3.5/5.

Score: 6.5/10

Ipswich Town

The V-neck collar, navy trim, red Umbro diamond to match the crest, oversize badge and pinstripes, while stylish, give the home jersey a busy look. The sponsor logo is distracting. 3/5. The maroon color, gold crest and logos give the away jersey an opulent feel; navy trims and a tonal diamond pattern of supporters’ flags add distinctive detail. 4/5.

Score: 7/10

Leicester City

Sporty home jersey with gold piping on the collar that coordinates well with the fox logo, presenting a cohesive appearance. 4/5. The away jersey is apparently inspired by the city’s street art and murals. Looks like a “transfer” has been pasted on black t-shirt. Hideous. 1/5.

Score: 5/10

Liverpool

The home jersey is a sensational take on the 1984 kit. The chrome yellow pattern, golden yellow crest and logo, and the distinctive collar juxtaposed against plain cuffs, combine to create a striking ensemble. 5/5. ⭐️ The dark green (anthracite) away jersey is very basic, and the teal cuffs, ironically, only enhance the “budget” feel. 2.5/5.

Score: 7.5/10

Manchester City

White and light blue is a great color combination. The home jersey starts with that advantage. The ribbed neck and cuffs and dark blue 0161 area code pattern adds contrast to the clean design. 4/5. Not a fan of the away jersey’s colour scheme but the retro collar, blue pinstripe detail, and cohesiveness will gradually grow on people. 4/5.

Score: 8/10

Manchester United

The home jersey’s vibrant, lighter red shade is eye-catching, and the gradient design accentuates its sleek silhouette. 4.5/5. The away jersey, in indigo blue, is a work of art, featuring a polo collar and an ‘M’ pattern that enhances its charm. 4.5/5.

Score: 9/10 👔

Newcastle

The ribbed V-neck, broad stripes and a well-cast sponsor logo give the home jersey a neat (nearly) monochrome look. 3.5/5. Navy and burgundy are an unbeatable color combination. The hoops, ribbed crewneck and white detail elevate the away jersey into a class of its own. 5/5. ⭐️

Score: 8.5/10

Nottingham Forest

A template Adidas design for the Garibaldi red home jersey although the texture showing two overlapping stars, representing their European Cup wins, is hard to decipher. 2/5. The pink stripes and detail, and grey chequerboard pattern give the away jersey a stylish and vibrant look. 4/5.

Score: 6/10

Southampton

Clean, traditional design for the home jersey, with black trim on collar and cuffs providing good contrast. 3/5. The away jersey, with its “fizzy yellow” and “yellow sizzle” dazzle pattern complemented by navy trims, is strikingly cohesive and eye-catching. 4.5/5.

Score: 7.5/10

Tottenham Hotspur

The home jersey maintains its customary clean design, yet it feels somewhat underwhelming this time, even with the patterned cuffs. 3/5. The away jersey is a welcome relief from previous shockers. Stripes, pinstripes, white and yellow tape on cuffs, and watercolor-wash feel create a look that is striking and tranquil. 5/5. ⭐️

Score: 8/10

West Ham

The flat knit ribbed collar and cuffs give the home jersey a very tailored feel. The crest, logos and contrasted sleeves also integrate well. 3/5. The black away jersey is simple and smart. The graphic on the front is too subtle and easily missed; the collar could also have been better. 3.5/5.

Score: 6.5/10

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Clean design for the home kit with the black trim on collar and cuffs also coming through with understated distinction. 4/5. Featuring a line drawing of a baying wolf, black triangular patterns, and a yellow collar trim, the black away jersey offers an imposing and athletic appearance. I love seeing animal club logos being brought to life in this manner. 5/5. ⭐️

Score: 9/10 👔
