Austin, 2023 — Transmute, a leading innovator in secure data management solutions, is pleased to announce the successful completion of its U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Red Team testing of the Verifiable Data Platform (VDP) for use in steel and e-commerce. This milestone marks a significant step towards enhancing the security and resilience of Transmute’s Verifiable Data Platform (VDP).

The Red Team testing, a comprehensive security assessment designed to simulate real-world attack scenarios, was executed by cybersecurity experts from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security within the SVIP Program. The rigorous testing aimed to identify vulnerabilities and potential weaknesses within Transmute VDP, ensuring the highest level of security and functionality for the platform’s users and data, including meeting the requirements for use by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as part of their 21st Century Customs Modernization initiatives.

“We are grateful to DHS for helping to preemptively identify and address weak points in applying verifiable credentials and decentralized identifiers to global supply chain security. We are immensely proud of our technical team’s work to achieve DHS’s internationally-recognized performance standards,” says Orie Steele, CTO and co-founder of Transmute, author of the DID spec and editor of the VC spec at W3C. “The completion of our Red Teaming work signals the culmination of years of effort and Transmute’s steadfast commitment to transparency, trust, and accountability.”

The collaboration with DHS brings together the expertise of Transmute’s engineering team and the proficiency of government security specialists, fostering an environment of knowledge sharing and cutting-edge security practices. This partnership aligns with Transmute’s dedication to maintaining the highest standards of data protection and privacy.

The Transmute Verifiable Data Platform (VDP) aims to enhance data security, unification, and visibility within the supply chain, particularly for industrial manufacturers and e-commerce supply chain participants. Built on open standards technology, VDP transforms critical trade documentation into verifiable credentials, a cryptographically-secure, tamper-evident data format that enables organizations to maintain total authority and transparency over their supply chain data. With only 43% of the world’s supply chains fully digitized, and fewer still wholly visible and trusted, VDP supplies much-needed data provenance and integrity across all stages of the value chain.

Transmute VDP’s successful completion of Red Team testing reaffirms its commitment to building a secure and resilient data management solution that meets the evolving needs of its users. The Platform’s innovative approach to verifiable data, coupled with its robust security measures, positions it as a frontrunner in the industry.
