Trendyol’s expansion into the Gulf markets is a significant milestone. We sat down with Lulu Al-Gwaiz, Head of Public Policy and Government Engagement at Trendyol, to gain more insight into this journey. Here’s a look at her role, the benefits of this expansion, and what the future holds for Trendyol in the Gulf region.

Shaping Public Policy and Building Bridges

“I’m Lulu, and I am responsible for shaping our public policy strategy across the region,” she explains. “My role focuses on developing strategies that advocate for favorable policies and forging strong partnerships with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and industry stakeholders.”

Lulu elaborates on her team’s responsibilities: “We lead initiatives that align our business objectives with the region’s regulatory landscape, ensuring that we not only navigate but also shape the policies that impact our expansion. Our team works closely with local governments to address challenges and seize opportunities in this vibrant market.”

The Impact of Trendyol Efforts

The rewards of our projects are personally and professionally satisfying. “What excites me most is seeing the direct impact of our efforts on local communities and businesses,” reveals Lulu.

“Facilitating smoother market entry and helping local entrepreneurs thrive is incredibly fulfilling.”

At Trendyol, it’s not what we say or think that defines us, it’s what we do. This principle is reflected in our efforts to create a favorable regulatory environment for e-commerce, contribute to economic development, and enhance our brand’s reputation. “Seeing how our initiatives are driving positive change and growth in the region is truly gratifying,” she adds.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

At Trendyol, collaboration is integral to our culture; we believe that we rise by lifting others and this mindset is very important to our Gulf expansion strategy. “Working across teams — marketing, logistics, operations — gives us diverse insights that refine our strategies to better meet the needs of Gulf consumers,” explains Lulu.

She emphasizes how coordination ensures alignment with broader business goals: “Aligning our policy initiatives with marketing and product strategies helps us create campaigns that resonate with local audiences while meeting regulatory requirements.”

Collaboration also helps address operational challenges: “Partnering with logistics and supply chain teams allows us to develop efficient processes for on-time delivery and a seamless customer experience,” she notes.

“Shared knowledge and a consistent approach strengthens our relationships with external stakeholders and drives our expansion.”

Empowering Local SMEs

One of the most exciting projects is Trendyol’s local SME onboarding initiative:

“We are developing a program to empower local sellers and enable them to reach markets beyond their own regions.”

The initiative will provide SMEs with the tools, resources and support to thrive on Trendyol’s platform. “Localized marketing campaigns will highlight these sellers and expand their reach both locally and across borders,” she shares. “This project not only supports SME growth, but also enriches our platform with diverse offerings, and I’m excited to see the positive impact it will have on local entrepreneurs and the broader economy.”

Values That Shape Trendyol Reputation

Trendyol’s core values are critical to building a strong reputation in the Gulf. “Our customer-centric approach ensures trust and loyalty through quality service and user-friendly experiences,” says Lulu.

“Integrity and transparency in our operations build credibility, which is important in the Gulf where relationships are built on trust.”

She highlights Trendyol’s commitment to local businesses: “Our commitment to empowering local SMEs is in line with the economic goals of the region. By providing resources and opportunities for local vendors, we demonstrate our commitment to the community, which resonates positively with consumers and government stakeholders alike.”

Innovation and social responsibility also play a key role: “Our focus on innovation keeps us ahead of the curve, while our sustainability efforts appeal to ethically conscious consumers,” she adds. “These values not only guide our internal culture, but also significantly enhance our brand image in the Gulf region.”

A Promising Future

Looking ahead, Trendyol’s future in the Gulf is full of potential. “We will continue to onboard more local SMEs and empower them to sell both locally and across different markets, expanding our product offerings and increasing our market presence, while enhancing the customer experience through data-driven insights and personalized services,” she envisions. This will position Trendyol as a leading e-commerce platform in the Gulf region.A focus on sustainability and technology will also set Trendyol apart.

“Promoting green practices and integrating advanced technologies will keep us competitive and responsive to market trends.”

“By strengthening government partnerships and aligning with national economic goals, Trendyol aims to drive regional growth and establish itself as a leading e-commerce platform,” Lulu concludes. “The future is bright, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”

As we wrap up our conversation, it’s clear that Trendyol’s expansion into the Gulf marks an exciting new chapter filled with opportunities for growth and innovation.
