Streetcred ID is thrilled to announce we have joined the Sovrin Network as a Steward. As a Sovrin Steward, Streetcred ID will collaborate with the 75+ other Stewards who maintain the integrity of the Sovrin Network.

It isn’t a secret that trust on the internet is broken. There isn’t a way to prove who you are, claims about a product, or even exchange verified personal information online in a privacy-preserving and secure way — until now. With the advent of self-sovereign identity (SSI) and the Sovrin Network, individuals, organizations, and connected things can exchange digital identity credentials with the assurance that they are in control of their personal data, not a third party.

But the Sovrin Network is more than this. It is an identity metasystem that allows for ad hoc workflows and processes, making ‘identity’ in the digital world function, for the first time, similarly to the way it does in the physical world. Streetcred provides the best way to integrate the Sovrin metasystem into any application, allowing for flexibility of integration into any workflows and/or processes.

Sovrin Stewards play an important role in the maintenance and governance of the Sovrin Network which includes running the network’s validator nodes. The diversity among the Stewards — their geographic location, industry, and type of organization — ensures the Sovrin Network is not controlled by any one institution, government, or industry.

“The individuals that make up the Streetcred ID team include some of the earliest advocates of the Sovrin Network,” says Heather Dahl, Executive Director & CEO of Sovrin Foundation. “The Streetcred team has been influential in providing significant code contributions to the Sovrin and SSI communities, and we are thrilled to include them as one of the Sovrin Stewards.”

Besides the contribution of core infrastructure to the Sovrin Network, we believe other contributions are vital to the growth of the self-sovereign identity community as well. In addition to the open-source code contributions Streetcred is known for, we are allocating resources to standards development, governance working groups, and other task forces.

We are a team of passionate self-sovereign identity advocates who believe that decentralized identity technology should be extremely easy to integrate into any application. It started back in 2018 when our CTO Tomislav Markovski built the Agent Framework (recently contributed to the Hyperledger Aries project) which quickly became one of the most popular ways to build SSI agents. And we’re excited to share what we’re working on next, which we believe will become the most popular way to build SSI agents going forward! Stay tuned…
