Tycho’s Moose
A Cabinet of Curiosities
Note from the editor

Tycho who? The last of the great ‘naked eye’ astronomers, Danish nobleman Tycho’s Brahe’s nightly observations of the planets and skies made Johannes Kepler’s Laws of Planetary Motion possible. An exceptionally wealthy man, Brahe (1546–1601) was almost as famous for his banquets as he was for his scientific work. Which is where the moose comes in…Tycho is said to have kept a tame moose for the entertainment of his guests. During one such party, the moose is said to have drunk too much beer, fallen downstairs and died.
