We were busy visiting new wine bars and tastings over November to come up with a nice new list of monthly wines. As you probably know, you can always find a wide range of wine tastings on UnscrewMe, to please your palate and curate your own favourites. You can even share them with us, if you like!
And if you’re interested in other wines we recommend, you can read through our October 2018 Wine Highlights.

It is always difficult to decide which wines to include here, and there can be many reasons why a particular wine made this list, or why it didn’t end up here.
Enough introduction, let’s jump right into our favourites in November.

Racy Riesling

  • Wine: 2013 Schlossböckelheimer “KG” (Kupfergrube), VDP.Ortswein
  • Producer: Gut Hermannsberg
  • Region: Nahe, Germany 🇩🇪
  • Story:
A lovely Riesling I kept for a couple of years, and one evening when meeting with some friends who are all into wine for dinner, I decided to bring this particular bottle along. It was a winner and brought out the soil of the vineyard beautifully.

Steely Spanish White

  • Wine: 2017 Tarabilla Blanco
  • Producer: Bodegas Gallegas
  • Region: Galicia, Spain 🇪🇸
  • Story:
I was on my way to meet friends and just quickly wanted to finally check out Westland Coffee And Wine near Old Street. This escalated quickly into a little tasting in its own right, with this smooth, steely Spanish wine made from the Airén grape being my firm favourite.
And if you want to impress your friends with some surprising wine knowledge or you maybe want to send a special someone a coded message, remember:
“[…] the word Airen (哀憐) in Japanese means ’compassion’; in Mandarin Chinese (爱人) it means ’lover’.” (Source: Wikipedia: Airén).

Sparkling Surprise

  • Wine: Satin Brut
  • Producer: Logodaj Winery
  • Region: Thracian Lowland, Bulgaria 🇧🇬
  • Story:
Once again, a Bulgarian wine made it on my monthly favourites. A few weeks ago, I greatly enjoyed this sparkling at the exciting Modern Wines of Bulgaria tasting.
What I found especially fascinating about this one is that it is made purely from the old, indigenous local grape variety called Broad Leaved Melnik using the traditional method.

Sweet Treat from Down Under

  • Wine: The Rude Mechanicals ‘Suck it & See’,
    Frontignac & Gewurtztraminer
  • Producer: Magpie Estate
  • Region: Barossa Valley, Barossa, Australia 🇦🇺
  • Story:
Following a recommendation by a friend, I went down to Elephant & Castle to see for myself what this new wine bar called Diogenes The Dog is all about. And guess what, it’s about fun wines.
Like this sweet, sparkling blend from Australia. A bit like lemonade with a nice balance, sweetness and fruit — and on top of that, it has bubbles!

Sharing is Caring

We’re always happy to hear about new restaurants with great wine lists, newly opened wine bars in London or just a nice wine you discovered recently.

If you have any recommendations, please let us know! Either comment on here or get in touch via social media through Twitter @unscrewmeapp, Facebook UnscrewMe or Instagram @unscrewmeapp.

We’re quickly approaching the end of the month, which means there will soon be another update about what’s coming up in December. Beyond that, we’ll revisit our Facebook ad campaigns and compare them to a campaign we had recently running on Google Ads.

(Besides usual suspects such as Kaffeine on Eastcastle Street and Curators Coffee Gallery, I wrote part of this list at DeRosier Chocolates in Earlsfield on my way to Wimbledon Art Fair, and I finished it off on my regular December co-working space TechHub in Moorgate .)
