Wrapping up the year and ramping up everything for 2019, it seems like about the right time to look back at the journey we had with UnscrewMe so far.

It all began almost two years ago when we had the initial idea. And finally in September 2018, we got to the stage where we’ve launched UnscrewMe, the wine tasting calendar for London. Since then, over just four months, we have listed 296 wine events across many boroughs and areas.

For us, this is just the beginning. We continue to look for more events, new wine shop and bar openings as well as any other exciting wine events. Our goal is to make it easier for everyone to discover wine events in London and learn more about wine.

From a personal perspective, UnscrewMe already is a roaring success. I’ve learned a lot about wine in general and am currently working towards my WSET Level 3 Award in Wines and Spirits, organised a little tasting, met many interesting people, made great contacts in the wine and hospitality industries and got a better understanding of wine events and tastings.

In addition to all that, I’ve also developed a new product concept using the Lean Canvas πŸ—’framework, picked the technology building blocks that make up UnscrewMe and built the web app to display all the listings.

Of course, we have been facing various challenges throughout the past months, and there will be more challenges in the future. Nevertheless, in the end, by launching and expanding UnscrewMe with more and more tastings, we have delivered on a key objective: giving Londoners a better tool to find out about wine tastings.

Quick facts for January 2019

London wine tasting outlook

Things start a bit slow in January, but it looks like plenty more wine tastings will be announced soon. Anyway, with 48 events, it should also easily be possible to find something for your taste this month.

For February, we already have more events lined up than in all of January. Looks like 2019 will be another fun year full of wine tastings 🍷.

At the same time as we were adding new events for 2019, we have also made progress on tagging and search. For now, these changes are mostly hidden below the surface, but they already make the instant search more effective. The more tastings we cover, the more important it is to help you filter the events to meet your personal preferences. And this is exactly the route we are on.

(So far, I always found New World Rieslings a bit too much for me, but the 2017 Columbia Valley Riesling by Chateau Ste Michelle from Washington State in the USA πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ that I had a couple of weeks ago at the excellent 28Β°-50Β° Marylebone Wine Workshop and Kitchen changed my mind. It was slightly off-dry and well-balanced with just enough minerality to make me happy.)
