This weekend we completed the rough installation of our camp-ready mini-van design to prepare for a test run next weekend.

A two-person bed takes up a lot of space. So we opted for a transforming bed that goes from solo to double sleeper. To support the full bed panels, we created a small lip on the 2x4" that supports one side of the built in bed. Then, we installed a small storage shelf that acts as the opposing support.

We used cotter pins to keep the bed panels from sliding. When not in use, the additional bed panels store neatly under the built-in bed.

By hinging one end of the bed, we retained open space between the sliding doors. These hinges also allow the bed to transform into a lounge chair. In the photo you can see some rough mock-ups of how we might use adjustable nylon straps and paracord to securely hold the lounge up.

Taking advantage of under bed storage, we built in this slide-out table to hold our camp stove while standing at the back of the van.

Lucky for us, the dimensions for our bench-bed (24" wide) match common foam widths for cushions and we are exploring options to keep our costs low. Update: read about the cushions we use.
