2019 Deep dive on the Canadian Venture Capital Ecosystem
A year ago, we published the second edition of our Canadian Tech and Venture Capital report. A report shared externally which was viewed a few thousand times by both domestic and international players interested in our ecosystem. Today, we are proud to share the third edition of our report and hope that you will enjoy reading it.
While the report relies on several external data sources, White Star has seen many of the findings play out with our portfolio companies this year. In January, Vention closed a C$17m Series A round led by Bain Capital Ventures. In June, Dialogue and Borrowell respectively raised $40m and $20m in new funding rounds from local and international investors. And in July, mnubo was acquired by Aspen Technology for C$115m.
In this third edition of our report, we aim to reiterate our enthusiasm for the Canadian Tech and Venture Capital ecosystem as well as touch upon a few new topics.
In addition to sharing our excitement about Canada and expressing our belief that the ecosystem is stronger than ever, we examine larger round dynamics, the continuation of the VCCI program, the rise of narwhals, and funding activity by state and region. We have also explored one of Canada’s key strengths: its diversity and increased immigration influx. Finally, we end with an updated deep dive on VCs and other investors.
