OpenLink Software, Inc., is pleased to announce the immediate availability of its latest updates to Virtuoso — a high-performance, scalable, and secure platform for Knowledge Graphs that transform Data to Intelligence.

As maintenance releases, Virtuoso Enterprise Edition Release 8.2 and Virtuoso Open Source Edition Release 7.2.6 include a number of bug fixes. Additionally, they include substantial usability enhancements regarding —

  • Geospatial data operations — exposing access to existing SQL/MM functionality through enhanced support of the GeoSPARQL Query Language
  • Enhanced CSV Data Integration (Enterprise Edition only) — enabling the mapping of multiple CSV documents that share common structure to a single Tabular Relation (in this case, a Remote VIEW) which can also be further transformed to fine-grained RDF Graphs for cost-effective knowledge graph generation and enhancement

Bug Fixes in VEE 8.2 and VOS 7.2.6

The following changes are included in Virtuoso Enterprise Edition (VEE) engine 08.02.3309 and later, and Virtuoso Open Source Edition (VOS) engine 07.20.3230 and later.

Virtuoso Engine

  • Added support for Strict-Transport-Security header
  • Added support for Forward Secrecy using DH and ECDH
  • Fixed default cipher list
  • Fixed set default protocol to TLSv1.2 or newer when possible
  • Added support for attachment of multiple identically-structured CSV files to a single Virtuoso remote view (also known as a virtual table) — in Enterprise Edition only

SPARQL

  • Fixed namespace check for bif: and sql: and related issues with system functions

JDBC Driver

  • Fixed issue with closing stmt handles in PreparedStatement

Faceted Browser

  • Fixed issues with long values such as geo shapes

LDP Protocol

  • Fixed issue with LDP POST command
  • Fixed LDP folder content return (by GET)

Additional GeoSPARQL functionality

  • New GeoSPARQL functions — in both Open Source and Enterprise Editions
  • New GeoSPARQL-specific Magic Predicates — in Enterprise Edition only

Live Demo Instances

In line with our commitment to live demonstrations of our functionality claims, we have also created a new Virtuoso 8.2 Geospatial Demo Data Space comprising geospatial datasets culled from a range of sources from the Linked Open Data (LOD) Cloud. Naturally this includes:

Availability

The shrink-wrapped Virtuoso Enterprise Edition 8.2 is available now for users with active licenses on macOS and Linux, with Windows builds in progress. Builds for other Unix-like OS are available on request. (New users should download with evaluation license.)

Pre-built binaries of VOS 7.2.6 will be available shortly for macOS, Linux, and Windows.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud

Virtuoso 8.2 is also available preinstalled and functionally pre-configured in the Amazon Web Services Cloud:

  • Bring-Your-Own-License (BYOL) — this AMI doesn’t include a Virtuoso license; i.e., you must also obtain and upload a license for use on this AMI (live as of 2018–10–23)
  • Pay-As-You-Go (PAGO) — this AMI bundles a Virtuoso license enabling 10 concurrent client sessions (threads) and 8 logical processors (live as of 2018–10–26)

Special Offers

To encourage exploration and exploitation of these remarkable new features, OpenLink is offering a number of special and upgradeable licensing deals on Virtuoso 8.x.

  • Our Personal-scale license brings most enterprise-grade features to the desktop, fitting an individual’s budget and without requiring enterprise-grade administration or training.
  • Several Developer-scale licenses enable cost-effective learning and experimentation, priced from $99 to $999, depending on the features you choose to explore.
  • Extra-special, limited-time offers on Deployment-scale licenses bring the full power and benefit of the new Release to any enterprise, at unimaginably-low price levels.

Support Options

For assistance with these or any other Virtuoso feature or functionality, you may post to our recently deployed Community Space, the Virtuoso Users Mailing List, a confidential Support Case (higher priority handling goes to Support contract subscribers and/or users of the Enterprise Edition), or (for VOS) an issue on the github project.
