Welcome to Vodafone UK Engineering
At Vodafone we’re working on transforming our business — in our Digital teams we’re at the forefront of this change. Over the past few months we’ve been building a world class team, working flexibly, with freedom and without compromise to deliver a best in class Digital experience to our customers.
It’s not easy, and so, in the spirit of transparency we’ve decided to use Medium as a place to showcase what we’ve been doing and how we are doing it.
So, what are we doing?
Everything is code 💻 — For our front end we’re all about JavaScript, we’re currently using React to deliver rich user interfaces that enhance our customer experience. We use Node.js to deliver high-performing and high-scaling micro-applications.
A service orientated RESTful architecture ✍️ — We’re using Java to build micro services to create our own home grown systems — creating new customer interactions.
Automation, automation, automation 🤖— DevOps is our culture — AWS, PagerDuty, Docker — whatever tools or processes we need to enable our teams to build, test and release frequently and continually in all environments.

We’re working in our newly refurbished offices, fostering a culture that promotes autonomy, empowers our people and delivers the very best innovation for our customers.
- For big data and machine learning we’re using HDFS, NoSQL, Hive, Apache Spark, TensorFlow
- With JavaScript we’re using the latest ES6 syntax with React, NodeJS, TypeScript, Jest, Enzyme, Codecept, Puppeteer, Webpack
- For our platform we are building new customer interactions using Java, Spring, Micro services, AWS, Docker, REST, OpenAPI and BDD via CI/CD and Agile delivery.
We work using SAFe (Scaled Agile) methodology — where we drive innovation and collaboration through agile/scrum working.
