It woke me up at 4:25 am. I could no longer sleep. A dream about her after 16 years. Yes, it was her- the one from the chapter of lost love.
In the dream, she was talking to a man with a sharp weapon concealed in his soul of evil intentions. She had this subtle smile with a prominent broken tooth causing hindrance to her once expressive eyes. In a tattered and faded long maroon overcoat, she wasn’t fighting the cold but a lurking fear that would take her down anytime. She was trapped in a distant land.

When I was awake, the disturbing-tremors-of-thoughts from the dream had shaken my mind. The epicentre was located somewhere in the past. I had to find her — the girl I was once in love with. I got up looking for my phone to locate her. The last time I checked, she was long gone from the society of the internet without any trace. After about 45 minutes of frantic search, I located a tiny speck of her online existence in a professional network. She now had a different name. I sent her a casual message and my phone beeped right away with her reply. A few back-and-forth messages and I knew everything was fine.

I wondered why she needed a different identity. I refrained from asking her any questions that would make her uncomfortable. But, I was at peace and I looked no further to decode the dream. Maybe it was a way for the brain to locate a lost bookmark from the favourite yet painful pages of my past.

Whatever the dream meant, I just hope that I don’t see it again. The dream did haunt me for a few more hours until I hugged my present real tight. A long silence. There was neither the epicentre nor the tremors. Calmness restored and thoughts moved on.
