Everyone is looking for ways to increase their productivity in work and in life in general.

If this is you, have a look at these five tips to help you increase productivity at work and at home.

Set Short, Medium, and Long-Term Goals

Tiered goals allow you to work toward the bigger picture (i.e., larger goals), while accomplishing smaller goals along the way. Physically seeing your progress toward a larger goal will keep you focused and on track until your goal is reached.

Prioritize Each Task

Sort through your daily tasks and order them from most important to least important. Tis tells you what your “must-dos” are. Tackle those first. This accomplishes two things:

a. The more difficult tasks are out of the way, and

b. It gives you more time to work on smaller less important tasks.

Your more important tasks can be time-consuming and require more mental and physical energy. Crossing them off your To-Do List will feel rewarding.

Weekly Reviews Rock!

Take a few minutes at the end of each week to reflect on your progress for that week. Make this a routine so you’re able to see where you excelled and where you need to spend a little extra attention the next week. This practice also keeps you accountable to yourself and your goals.

Create Boundaries with Everyone (Including Yourself)

If you’re spending your time doing things that don’t support your goals or hanging out with people who are supportive of where you want to take your life, it’s time to make a change. It is important to spend time with people who lift you up and empower you (read kick your butt when you slack off). When you come across people who are intent on diverting your attention elsewhere, it’s time to set some boundaries. Check out my article here to find out more about setting boundaries so you can be more productive.

In addition to setting boundaries with others, you need to set them with yourself too. For example, if the first thing you do when you log onto your computer each morning is check social media, you may need to set some limits around that activity. Social media is great for tracking friends and family and watching cute Reels, but it can be counterproductive. It becomes a distraction that keeps you from completing your work. Maybe consider scheduling social media and other things/people that serve to cause distractions in your day.

Take a Break

Productivity is associated with “hard work”. But sometimes being productive involves taking time away from your work in the form of small breaks. Burnout is insidious and can keep you from working quickly and efficiently. When you hit a wall mentally and physically, give yourself permission to get away from your projects for a bit. Go do something fun. (Remember to come back.) ;-) When you return to your task, you’ll see it with fresh eyes and renewed determination.

Takeaway

Being productive takes a lot of effort. Using these five tips can help you reach your goals.
