Depending upon the work they do you there are following types of game designers:-

Lead designers

Lead designers are role models for fresh designers. They are responsible for guiding the fresh designers at every stage, help them whenever they face any issue, teach them tactics of game designing and motivate the entire team of designers to achieve the games overall vision. Level designers are the excitement maker of the game. They are some of the brilliant brains who decides what will be the level look like as the gamer clears one level and moves to another level. They are responsible for preparing the script of the entire gameplay and ensuring that things go exactly as they wanted it.

Content designers

Well, a game without dialogues is as boring as watching a movie with no audio. To bring life to the games, a content designer is responsible for writing the storyline and maintaining the overall interest of the gamer by crafting the scenes, putting the dialogues and other texts.

System designers

You might be amazed to find how well the games are designed. Well, to bring a perfect gaming platform for you, a system designer is employed. The system designer is responsible for working over particular sections that are assigned to him. For instance, some system designers are working over the gaming characters, while on the other hand, some designers are given the task to work over the weapons.

Therefore, a perfect game comes into a highlight, upon combining the work of all the system designers.

Technical designers

A transition state between programming and designing is a field called technical designing. A Technical designer is having not only to experience in designing of the gaming characters and other essentials of the game but is also having adequate command over the programming of the game.

UI designer

A game is more fun to play when the gaming characters act in accordance with the players. To establish this level of communication between the gaming character and the players, UI designers are working. These designers ensure that the gaming commands are easier to understand by the players and the players can relate with the gaming characters.

How challenging is the life of a game designer?

A game designing as a profession is not an easy journey as it involves high levels of creativity, regular updates and ability to think out of the box.

Views on game designing

“Gamers can feel when developers are passionate about their games. They can smell it like a dog smells fear. Don’t be afraid to hold onto your unique vision: just be aware that it may not turn out exactly how you envisioned.”

― Scott Rogers, Game Designer

“For many game players, games exist for entertainment, for passing the time, for fun.

They are a diversionary activity, meant for relaxation or distraction — a “not- work” space where players are free to engage in fantasy narratives, amazing feats, and rewarding tasks. But what if certain games have become something more?”

― Mary Flanagan,Game Designer
