I was scrolling through my news feed early this morning and saw the following image:

In reality, I found this analogy too apt, even though I quite disagreed with it. It touches on the struggle between passion and commitment in a relationship. Around a month ago, I wrote Why Organic Is A Sham reflecting on this exact idea. So here’s what I think. Someone might indeed be fanning the cup of water, and someone else might indeed have ice! But that ice will eventually melt. The water will go back to room temperature. A one time effort won’t keep it cold for very long. Unless, the person with the ice is willing to “keep bringing ice,” putting in the requisite work to keep the passion of the relationship alive in the long term, it’ll eventually fizz out. At the core, it should always be both. Passion and commitment. Any counterarguments, moreso for one over the other?
