Every week we ask four Second Home members to recommend a book that has influenced their life and work. Each title that is selected becomes part of Libreria’s permanent collection and is available to buy in store. This week we have some sublime choices from the brains behind Bulb, Visualise, London School of Architecture and Gym Bites.

Hayden Wood

Co-founder, Bulb

I’d choose Edward Tufte’s ‘The Visual Display of Quantitative Information’. I think it’s a stunning book. We work in a complex and technical industry and understanding how best to interpret and present information is very important. Despite being first published in 1983, I believe it is just as relevant today as it was then. The book provides some excellent examples of good graphical design. Surprisingly, most of which come from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Henry Stuart

CEO, Visualise

Creativity Inc, it’s the story of Pixar by it’s founder and CEO, Ed Catmull. It brilliantly captures the difficulties of bringing creative projects to life and managing creative people I found it both a source of practical help and great inspiration. If only Visualise was the Pixar of VR, well, something to work towards!

The Function of Style, the latest in a trilogy on function by Farshid Moussavi, a must-have for any architecture student offering an unrivalled analysis of contemporary buildings.

Alexis Oladipo

CEO, GYMBITES

SEVENTY by Dara Knox-Hooke. This book is simply amazing, it highlights the troubled times of the author’s life, coming from a very tough past, battling with inner demons, breaking free and finding love and peace in Christ. Without giving too much a way, she finds herself in trouble with the law in a foreign country… You can read the rest to find out what happens next. I have chosen this book because I am a believer of Christ and His marvellous works and this book is testimony of that!
