Dispatch from TechCrunch Disrupt Berlin: WorkChain.io Unveils App for “Streaming Money”
Most of the world streams music or movies nowadays through platforms like Netflix and Spotify.
But what if you could stream your paycheck in just the same way?
That’s the concept our team unveiled at TechCrunch Disrupt Berlin this week, Europe’s largest annual tech event.
We were fortunate to be invited to the event after being selected by TechCrunch as a blockchain ‘Top Pick’.
With invitation in hand, our CEO Ryan Fyfe, COO Ivan Petrovic and CTO Vladimir Cvejanovic traveled to Berlin to show off our streaming money technology to the world’s tech leaders, innovators, founders and media.
Posted up in “Start Up Alley” at the event, our team demonstrated the WorkChain.io Wallet app (get it on iOS or Android), which enables on-demand paychecks for workers, giving them the flexibility to get paid in real-time, instead of weeks later as happens today.
Through the WorkChain.io Wallet app, workers can choose to have their earnings “streamed” directly to their smartphone. It’s much like movies and songs can be streamed through popular platforms like Netflix and Spotify.
As the team explained to a large array of techies in Startup Alley, instant paychecks through the WorkChain.io Wallet app are available to workers of all kinds — salaried, part-time, hourly and gig.
Funds are either streamed directly from employers or advanced by WorkChain.io and recouped when payroll is next processed.
Speaking during the event, WorkChain.io CEO Ryan Fyfe said getting paid in real-time is in step with the instantaneous and on-demand way most of the world now works.
“Having worked with millions of employees through our previous companies, this disconnect between working and getting paid is a problem we’ve long wanted to solve,” Fyfe said. “And now, in blockchain, we finally have the technology to do it.”
“We live in a fast-paced, on-demand world. Yet we still get paid based on slow pay periods rooted in the Industrial Age, and pretty much just accept it despite the financial inflexibility it causes. WorkChain.io breaks down this old, outdated payroll model.
“We believe having earnings stream to your smartphone can become just as natural as streaming a song or movie today.”
Once paid, a user can choose to withdraw, exchange or save their earnings via the app.
In future, the plan is to partner with cryptocurrency-enabled debit and credit cards to further bridge the gap between cryptocurrency and fiat currencies.
Our team’s appearance at Disrupt is the highlight of a two-week European roadshow that started at the Venture Capital Forum in Belgrade earlier in the week.
