Classic Chicken Shack, incredible performance by Playing for Change on their Australian tour.

Originally an Etta James classic, Chicken Shack reached No 14 in the UK charts in 1969, featuring Christine Perfect, later to become Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac, on vocals.

I’d Rather Go Blind recorded by Etta James in 1967, released in 1968.

Rod Stewart covered the song on his 1972 album Never a Dull Moment.

At the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors concert honouring Buddy Guy, Beth Hart performed I’d Rather Go Blind for Buddy Guy, but even accompanied by Jeff Beck on guitar, she could not raise it above mediocrity, nevertheless, they received a standing ovation. On the other hand the rendition of Stairway to Heaven for fellow inductees Led Zeppelin, and other celebrities, including Barack and Michelle Obama, was amazing.

More than a decade ago, Playing For Change was inspired when one man, Roger Ridley, sang familiar words to a popular song: “No matter who you are. No matter where you go in life. At some point, you’re gonna need somebody to stand by you.” For Co-Founder Mark Johnson, that moment ignited a passion to use music to connect people and to create a better world.
