Of Redemption
A prose poem (haibun) in response to Ravyne Hawke’s December 25th prompt
Redemption. Many seek this. What does it mean? Prove the ego right? That’s a human construct — writing righteously— righting a wrong— proving having been wronged — proving having acted rightly in vengeance — no! Is revenge ever right no matter how we twist written words? No! Righting having been wronged by others. Judgment. By whom? Charged by society. Judged by jury of peers. What is a peer? Shall God judge? Other souls? Who was redeemed at Shawshank? The innocent Andy, who prostituted himself to survive but got took revenge upon corruption?
No. Red achieved redemption. Made amends. Karma demands good intent — accountability. Soul’s sole salvation.
