She exits without making another sound and fades away like a dream. In four steps she’s just another person taking the elevator back to the parking lot.
You listen to the uninterrupted stream of sounds that make up the office ecosystem. Electric hums, muffled voices, clicking, clacking and sifting over cheap, starchy carpet. The indoor jungle.
You remember the dojo. Squeaks of bare feet against hardwood. Rustling gis. Snapping power shots and air that smells neither fresh nor stale but feels alive as it carries the room’s energy through your body with each breath.
Four walls with two doors that remain open no matter the season.

You must fight for it.
There’s still time to catch Boss. You grab your coat and run.
Skip the elevator. The stairs are faster.
