We’ve all found ourselves getting bored and switching off, whether from a story, novel, or TV show.

It can be challenging to get readers to keep going. As a writer, just about the worst thing I can imagine is a reader getting bored and giving up. I’d rather they hated the story!

Hooking readers and getting them more and more engaged as they read is this week’s focus.

Techniques to maintain the tension

As with other aspects of creative writing craft, getting readers engaged is not random.

Sure, writing good prose in a genre that they like will help. But there’s more There are various ways to maintain or raise the tension in a story.

We can learn from how other authors do this effectively.
