Yield Guild Games (YGG) wrapped up Guild Advancement Program (GAP) Season 4 on November 8, 2023, marking another chapter in its journey toward community empowerment. The latest season of the GAP delivered a more rewarding experience than ever for guild members, as it introduced Meta Quests, facilitated more collaborative decision-making in the GAP Council, and much more.

NFTs and token rewards will be distributed to guild members starting November 16, 2023. Along with previous GAP NFTs, these rewards will serve as the basis for members to build their web3 reputation through the guild’s new Reputation and Progression (RAP) system. In the same way that players level up in role-playing games, RAP enables YGG players to showcase their contributions within web3 as they accumulate experience points (XP) and reach higher profile levels.

Upgrades from GAP Season 4

GAP Season 4 prioritized community-driven development, introducing two new games, the MMORPG GensoKishi Online and the action RPG Champions Ascension. Season 4 also embraced group quests, where teams of five guild members worked together to complete a bundle of interconnected quests. This incentivized players to bring in their friends and utilize their existing reputation within the guild to earn rewards.

Meta Quests were introduced, enabling dedicated guild members to design quests and facilitate the operations around them while developing their leadership skills in the process. The Meta Quests were proposed by the community and included council quests, which were created and spearheaded by the GAP Council.

The GAP Council played a pivotal role in Season 4 and managed additional responsibilities, such as formulating grant proposals for Season 5 that span various facets of the program. This expanded role is paving the way for decentralized governance within the YGG ecosystem.

Season 4 also included the following features:

  • Integration of featured quests and spotlights
  • Expansion of guild leaders and council for collaborative decision-making
  • Establishment of community-owned media through content quests
  • Piloting decentralized quest creation and group quests for a more inclusive future

A Season of Growth and Community

This season, guild members had the opportunity to choose from 160 quests, a 75% increase from the previous season’s 90 quests. This included non-game quests within the realms of Community Operations, the Game Testers Program, the GAP Council, and YGG Pilipinas.

Aside from newcomers GensoKishi Online and Champions Ascension, the following games also made their return this season:

Axie Infinity and Pixels quests showed outstanding reach, garnering up to 1,500 enrollments each.

“In terms of group quests, around 100 individuals participated out of 3,000 users, typically organized into groups of five. Participants expressed a desire for larger squads with more members,” said Dae, Program Manager at YGG. “This season served as an initial exploration, with our first attempt being relatively generic to gauge interest. The feedback received is valuable, paving the way for expansion. Essentially, we were just scratching the surface, and both the team and participants are eager to delve deeper.”

In Season 4, the GAP leaderboard transitioned to become a comprehensive reference for accumulated reputation measured in XP. This system symbolizes dedication within the YGG ecosystem, fostering a culture of contribution and continuing to recognize accomplishments, while also taking direct steps toward developing YGG’s reputation layer.

Participation statistics for Season 4 painted a vivid picture of the program’s success and the growing enthusiasm within the YGG community. The total number of questers reached 3,475, each associated with a unique wallet. Achievement badges will be unveiled after November 15.

Overall, dapp user statistics revealed impressive growth in GAP engagement compared to the previous season:

  • 6,184 YGG account sign-ups (147% increase)
  • 33,681 quest enrollments (243% increase)
  • 160 unique quests (75% increase)
  • The GAP Council experienced a surge with 893 contributors (26% increase)

In addition to the structured elements of the program, participants were encouraged to actively engage with the YGG community on Discord and various social media platforms. This emphasis on community interaction enriched the overall experience by creating a deeper sense of camaraderie among guild members that extended beyond the Metaverse.

Setting the Stage for Season 5

GAP Season 5 is set to be more focused on a collaborative experience for the community. Here are some key features that will define the next season:

  • Transition to group questing

Season 5 will witness a significant shift from individual quests to a collaborative group questing approach. This change not only encourages members to work together but also builds a stronger sense of community within the guild.

  • Integration of guild allegiances

A novel addition to the GAP landscape will be the introduction of guild allegiances. This will shine a spotlight on group achievements, providing a platform to track and celebrate collaborative milestones. The inclusion of guild allegiances aims to further reinforce the tenet that success within the GAP is a collective accomplishment as much as it is an individual pursuit.

  • Implementation of RAP and XP system

To enrich the reward structure and provide a more comprehensive experience, Season 5 will introduce an XP system that helps build player reputation alongside achievement NFTs and tokens. This approach will tie progression to reputation, offering members access to exclusive perks such as GAP Council membership and merchandise, all of which can be unlocked by accumulating XP.

  • Partner-sponsored quests

Through ongoing discussions with four games, the GAP is set to diversify quest offerings and engagement opportunities. These collaborations will not only enhance the overall quest experience but also open doors to exciting possibilities and unique challenges sponsored by external partners.

“As the curtains close on GAP Season 4, we reflect on a chapter that exemplified the commitment to community-driven development within the guild ecosystem,” said Mark Tan, Head of Community Products. “Season 4 was a testament to innovation, and the program achieved remarkable success, with participation metrics surging to new highs. The GAP leaderboard underwent a transformative shift, emphasizing dedication, expertise and contribution over traditional competition. This season laid the foundation for a more inclusive and community-driven future.”
