Building on the success of its first three seasons, Yield Guild Games (YGG) is proud to announce the launch of Season 4 of the Guild Advancement Program (GAP). Some of the community’s most recent top picks are joining the fold this season, with all-new quests for guild members to dive into as they hone their skills and establish their web3 reputation. The season will officially begin on August 3, 2023, and will run until November 2, 2023.

In Season 3, the GAP witnessed active quest participation from 545 unique wallets, resulting in 1,635 achievement NFTs being minted by the YGG community. Additionally, these quests generated a significant increase in in-game activity within participating games.

Applying community feedback and learnings from the introduction of the GAP Council, the guild has added two new games this season, and over 150 quests will be available across all participating games. Among other initiatives, group questing will also be introduced, along with Meta Quests, which will be developed from direct community input. The GAP Council will be reopened as well, taking on new responsibilities beyond those achieved in prior seasons. With this, Season 4 is set to be the largest and most impactful GAP season yet.

“We are excited to share that we have now transformed historical player records from more than 1,200 guild members into experience points and are working on publishing that later this year,” said Mark Tan, Head of Community Products. “These experience points will also serve as a basis for unlocking YGG privileges in the future. Our long-term strategy involves implementing a comprehensive leveling system for all guild members across all contributions. We are thrilled to see everything coming together and are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to announce more updates later this year.”

What’s New in GAP Season 4?

Season 4 will feature roughly 150 quests, a 66% increase from the previous season’s 90 quests. With the community achieving a very high completion rate last season, this iteration of the GAP presents a chance for the guild to raise the bar even further to bring out the best in each participant. In total, the quests now have double the content compared to Season 3, making this GAP season the biggest and most challenging yet.

More games are also being added to the GAP roster this season, specifically the community’s favorite Metaverse MMORPG in recent months, GensoKishi Online, the skill-based arena RPG, Champions Ascension, which had an off-season quest that began after GAP Season 3, and the GTA-meets-Pixar shooter My Pet Hooligan, coming hot off a live game demo at the YGG Web3 Community Summit (W3CS). Pixels, the discovery game from Season 3, also saw remarkable engagement from the GAP and will continue participating in the program.

Legion, a content creator for Pixels and a founding member of Trappers in the Field (TiF), a guild actively collaborating with YGG in Pixels, emphasized how the quests make the game even more engaging. “As Pixels begins to lean more into user-generated content, the GAP plays a pivotal role in crafting a more immersive and rewarding game experience for our community in Season 4,” said Legion. “I eagerly look forward to joining more scavenger hunts and in-game meetups with the community, while continuing to create content and share tips and strategies to support our players’ journey in Pixels.”

Group Questing and New Achievements

Season 4 will feature a new group questing feature where groups of five will need teamwork and leadership to complete 25 quests. This will allow members to invite their friends to compete for higher rewards by enrolling for more challenging quests as a group while utilizing their reputation within the guild.

Non-game achievements related to designing GAP achievements, streaming, and content creation will also return. Meta Quests will be added as well, empowering community members to propose quest ideas for the community to complete, while the GAP Council and YGG core members will oversee and vet these community-made quest proposals.

“Introducing these quests is our direct response to the community’s feedback,” said Dae, Program Manager at YGG. “We are analyzing participants’ behavior, their hopes for the program, and any concerns they might have. The evolution of the GAP mirrors the dynamic pace of our pioneering community as they navigate the YGG ecosystem and pave the way for new members of the guild. Demonstrating exceptional leadership and genuine curiosity comes with its own rewards, earning individuals both reputation and ownership, along with a strong sense of community.”

Growing the GAP Council

In Season 3, the GAP Council emerged as a community-led initiative working closely with guild members to build the GAP. It marked an important shift in YGG’s priorities as the guild continued to evolve itself and its approach to games. Moving on from solely rewarding in-game activity, the guild placed greater focus on identifying and nurturing community leaders. The Council’s responsibilities included documentation, content creation, and feature proposals for the GAP. They made sure important announcements, quest submission deadlines, and rewards claim periods were well-documented, keeping the community informed.

Consisting of dedicated members of the YGG community, the Council actively contributed to the program’s development and improvement, collaborating closely with the YGG core team, addressing community concerns, and ensuring Season 3 ran smoothly. Additionally, the GAP Council played a vital role in enhancing players’ user experience by creating engaging achievements and quests. Their efforts were crucial for Season 3’s success and laid the foundation for further improving the program in Season 4.

Reflecting on the GAP Council’s journey towards decentralization, Dae shared, “The Council is inching closer to autonomy, resulting in products tailored even more precisely to our valued members, embodying the true vision and mission of YGG. Embracing co-building has strengthened our bond and sense of shared ownership, naturally giving rise to essential governance discussions.”

For Dae, the YGG community has always played a crucial role in the overall success of the guild, and the GAP Council stands as a tangible manifestation of YGG’s collective and iterative efforts. “As an avid community member long before becoming part of the core team, I am eagerly anticipating the Council’s upcoming developments,” he added.

The GAP Council’s main goals continue to be strengthening its relationship with the community and creating a rewarding experience for everyone. Looking ahead to Season 4, the Council plans to expand opportunities, enabling members to take on new responsibilities and contribute in exciting ways. More GAP Council sessions will be hosted on the YGG Discord throughout Season 4, providing a platform for open discussions, brainstorming ideas, and gathering community feedback. Additionally, GAP Achievements for Council members will now be tailored to their specific contributions, departing from the general achievement approach used in the previous season.
