Season 5 of YGG’s Guild Advancement Program (GAP) came to a close on June 4, 2024, introducing questers to several upgrades to improve player experience, including a new dapp, a renewed focus on community quests, and more. Throughout its four-week run, GAP Season 5 saw over 7,000 community members take on 58 quests and bounties to earn their YGG achievement badges. With shorter cycles and a more concentrated series of questlines allowing for faster iteration, there’s plenty to be excited about for the upcoming season.

Quest finishers can visit the GAP Season 5 page on the YGG website to view their accumulated YGG points and claim their end-of-season rewards until December 2024.

Upgrades from GAP Season 5

Community favorites made a return for GAP Season 5, with BLOCKLORDS coming back from Season 2, and Pixels making its third consecutive appearance in the program. Two new games also debuted in GAP this season, with Mighty Action Heroes and Rumble Racing Star joining the roster. The games were well-received among the YGG community, with Pixels leading the pack in quest sign-ups, drawing in 6,677 questers, followed by new entrant Rumble Racing Star, which garnered 1,602 sign-ups.

Headlining the changes made for Season 5 is a brand-new YGG website. V3 of the dapp was designed to improve the process of onboarding to the program and provide existing GAP participants with a more streamlined questing experience.

Streamlining the program also included a shift to the YGG points system in GAP Season 5. Participants collected YGG points for each successful quest and will have until December 2024 to redeem their GAP Season 5 YGG token rewards.

YGG also launched bounties to expand on the community quests from previous seasons. Bounties offered rewards for a more diverse pool of community-oriented contributions, such as content creation, community moderation, online event attendance, and more. The Community Operations bounty questline was a popular pick, as it gave the global YGG community an equal opportunity to hone their community management skills.

By combining its community-oriented quest offerings into a dedicated questline, YGG was able to give its community a trial run of the various opportunities it has in store for them moving forward. This will be especially true in GAP Season 6, which will build on this new category even further through new bounty quest offerings.

“GAP has always been about progression,” said Mark Tan, YGG Head of Community. “The introduction of bounties was an important step in the right direction, since it streamlined and expanded on the opportunities we’ve been giving to our community members to showcase and develop their skills. We also looked at Season 5 as an opportunity to set up GAP to improve at a faster rate. With Season 6 right around the corner, we have an opportunity to build on Season 5 with it still fresh in our minds.”

A Record Number of Questers

The YGG community showed their eagerness to experience the GAP updates in full force, with GAP Season 5 drawing the biggest group of enrollees to the program thus far. Riding high off the success of the previous season, GAP Season 5 saw an increased player count with a 77% growth in enrollees. Over the course of the season, there were 7,554 total users who enrolled in the program compared to 4,253 in GAP Season 4.

GAP Season 5 zoomed in on delivering faster and better iterations of the program with a much more focused lineup of games. Demonstrating the community’s passion and drive, quest sign-ups in GAP remained high, with all four participating games seeing healthy quest enrollment figures:

Pixels was an especially strong performer this season, with 6,677 total quest enrollments across its four available quests. Aside from in-game quests rewarding players for engaging with Pixels’ virtual farming gameplay loop, GAP Season 5 also incorporated a social quest encouraging members of the YGG community to meet up in-game.

Rumble Racing Star and BLOCKLORDS were strong performers this season as well, both bringing in over 1,000 enrollments during Season 5’s runtime. The YGG community also showcased their dedication to in-game excellence this season in Mighty Action Heroes (MAH). Despite the difficulty of progressing through the game’s ranked system to clear its MAH Ranker quest in GAP, over 800 players managed to complete the questline.

This season, thousands of web3 gamers saw their achievements minted onchain. A total of 13,320 soulbound tokens were distributed over the course of the season, enabling these questers to further establish their onchain reputation by giving them credentials to thrive in the open Metaverse. As YGG continues to hone its infrastructure, these achievements will be instrumental in connecting members of the YGG community with games and opportunities that they will enjoy pursuing. These achievements also came through in a big way come the end of the season, with 180,965 YGG points in total distributed to GAP Season 5’s participants.

Players eager to progress through community-focused quests gave way to the popularity of bounties this season, which accounted for a sizable portion of the success enjoyed by players in GAP Season 5. Out of GAP’s entire player base, 26% of all quest finishers completed bounties with 54% of all YGG tokens distributed going to bounty finishers.

What to Expect for Season 6

Although Season 5 was initially announced to be split into two parts, GAP will go straight into Season 6 when it picks up again on July 10. With the improvements made to its dapp infrastructure and internal systems, YGG plans to increase the overall cadence of GAP, enabling gamers to participate in the program year-round.

Additionally, GAP Season 6 will feature quests in more games. With the improvements established during GAP Season 5, the YGG community has another fun-filled GAP season coming up soon.

  • Premium Quests

Players raring to get ahead next season can use their hard-earned YGG tokens to pick up a Season Pass for GAP Season 6. This will give them exclusive access to challenging, token-gated Premium Quests reserved for YGG’s most committed players with the promise of truly unique rewards.

  • New Bounties

All bounties featured in GAP Season 5 are set to return for GAP Season 6. With the success of these community-oriented quests, YGG has also decided to offer a wider assortment of bounties this coming season. The main theme of these new additions is how the YGG community will be able to engage in a more varied set of tasks, including a more robust content creation questline, game testing, and more.
