#nevicata14 in Italian means “snowfall of 2014”. The initial idea of the project was to cover all the territory of the square with a uniform layer of material which would cover all the differences in pavement levels erasing traces of the previous automotive use of the space and relaunching its new life from the “white page”.

On the initial stage of work we were asked to design a proposal for the square after a participatory session with citizens and then present it together with 10 other studios.

In order to communicate our first concept we’ve created a Facebook page and printed out hundreds of postcards for people to immagine and draw on them the new uses of this reappropriated space:

Postcards were produced by participants both during offline meetings and also digitally:

All the contents of our participatory session you can find in the special archive:

After this initial phase of work we had to wrap up our concept, contributions from citizens and the future vision developed together into a consistent and comprehensive shape. We’ve chosen to tell it in a form of a story about #nevicata14 as we believe that stories are universal relational environments capable of bringing together elements of fiction and reality and communicating them in an understandable way to everyone.

On this stage I was coordinating efforts of Interstellar Raccoons team creating the collages and architectural team with more technical drawings putting together all the contents. You can find the original slides here:

Or the English version of this story:

After presentation of the story we had to prepare also an additional document about the whole process for the following public consultation process:

By the end of this process we were selected to proceed with the implementation of concept int he square and here completely different approach to communication had to be developed. Stay tuned for it!;)
