Warning! The steps outlined may have changed since this guide was produced.

Zero Carbon Project has listed their ZeroCarbon (ZCC) tokens to be traded on IDEX. This is to allow energy suppliers to purchase ZCC to pay their transaction fees, to allow consumers to cash in their ZCC rewards and to allow people to buy and sell them for their own purposes.

This tutorial takes a beginner through the process of setting up an ethereum wallet using Metamask or MyEtherWallet, purchasing ether and how to connect to IDEX.

Why we chose IDEX

We chose IDEX because it provides an optimal mix of decentralised and centralised functions.

Our vision is to provide a decentralised service which is completely automated and run by our community. However, in the early days as the decentralised software infrastructure is developing, we also require reliability, speed and easy to use.

IDEX meets these requirements well by providing a sensible trade-off with hybrid-decentralised functionality along with reliability, speed and ease of use.

This trade off results in a good user experience, although it remains complex to the uninitiated due to the decentralised functions.

A Note on Browsers

It is highly recommended you use the Google Chrome Browser for your ether wallet and connecting and using IDEX. Other browsers such as Internet Explorer or Firefox have not been specified to the needs of the crypto-community.

Which Wallet is best for me?

For a regular crypto user or someone planning on holding more in the future we recommend investing in a hardware ledger device. This is the most secure way to hold your digital assets because your private key is held off-line. You can browse their products here — https://www.ledger.com/collections/all-products

For someone who is just starting out, Metamask and MyEtherWallet are great free wallets. They are easy to use and they are secure when used correctly.

We recommend Metamask as there is less margin for error and is easier to use. Metamask is a browser extension which allows you to create a wallet and interact with the ethereum blockchain without downloading the entire blockchain.

MyEtherWallet is a website that allows anyone to create a wallet or access their own.

How to set up your Wallet?

There are already some great tutorials on how to set up these wallets so we have picked the best ones you can find below. Once you have set up your wallet come back to find out how to connect to IDEX and deposit your Ether or ZCC tokens.

Buying your First Ether

Whether you are looking to buy or sell ZCCs you will need to purchase some ether to either pay for gas, or pay for the ZCCs.

We recommend using Bittylicious due to its simplicity, reliability and low fees — https://bittylicious.com/

Once on the website switch from “Bitcoin” to “Ether” using the dropdown box. This changes “Bitcoin address” to “Ether address”. Ensure you correctly insert your public address here to receive your ether into your wallet. See the two sections below to find your wallet’s public address.

You will only be able to buy 0.15ETH without setting up and verifying an account. Although an amount as small as 0.01ETH will be more than enough for depositing ZCCs. Bear in mind you will pay a higher exchange rate the smaller amount you buy.

Enter the amount of ether you would like to purchase and select your preferred payment method. Once at the next stage follow the instructions provided and remember to provide the reference.

Once the payment has been processed you will see a link appear to etherscan where you can check on your transaction.

Once you see the transaction has been confirmed and the ether has been transferred into your wallet you are ready to proceed to IDEX.

Finding your public address using Metamask wallet

If using Metamask, you can find your public address by clicking on the three little dots and then “Account Details”.

This is your public address (circled below) which is used to receive and send ether. Copy the public address and paste it into Bittylicious. Ensure you copy and paste the address fully and correctly to Bittylicious to avoid losing your ether.

Finding your public address using MyEtherWallet wallet

If using MyEtherWallet, you can find your public address by logging in to your wallet and looking for the box displayed below on the right-hand side of the screen. This is your ether public wallet address. Ensure you copy and paste the address fully and correctly to Bittylicious to avoid losing your ether.

Connecting to IDEX

IDEX market URL is https://idex.market. Their parent company website is https://auroradao.com/. Ensure the website URL is correct when using the exchange.

You can close their advertisement for earning IDEX trading fees for staking once on the website unless this appeals to you. We would recommend exploring this if you have the required technical skills, but for now, proceed to the Exchange.

Unlock Wallet

If this is your first time on IDEX then you will be presented with the pop-up window below. Click “UNLOCK WALLET” or if the window does not appear click “UNLOCK WALLET” in the top right of the page.

Once presented with the page below select your wallet type and proceed to connect the wallet. It is recommended you use Chrome as otherwise you can experience some issues with connecting your wallet, specifically we have experienced issues with Firefox and Safari but it may not be limited to these.

If using MyEtherWallet select “Keystore file” and upload the document you downloaded when creating your wallet. You can then proceed.

If using Metamask select “Software Wallet” and then “Unlock Wallet”. A Metamask pop-up window will then appear where you will have to confirm this (be careful if you have a pop-up blocker as this could stop the window appearing).
