The Zero Carbon Market provides an online reverse auction which delivers the lowest zero carbon energy offers available. This market for business energy consumers complements the Zero Carbon Market’s online comparison and switching site for household energy consumers.

The online reverse auction delivers a range of energy prices, all compared on a like-for-like basis, which cover the full range of zero carbon energy technology sources. These technologies include renewable energy (solar, wind, biofuels and others); nuclear energy; and carbon neutral which is sourced from fossil fuel generators but with carbon emissions offset by the purchase of international carbon credits. The pros and cons associated with each type of zero carbon energy are explained and the consumer chooses which one is most suitable for their requirements.

Beond, the parent company of the Zero Carbon Project, has been running online energy auctions for the last 15 years and has been developing the techniques and software features to intensify competition between the energy suppliers.

Online energy auction demonstration

We have set up an energy consumer in our online energy auction system in order to demonstrate the online energy auction to potential Project contributors or customers.

The online energy auction can be accessed through www.beondgroup.com website.

Step 1: Log on to Market: Click the Login button, use Username ‘Demo’ and Password ‘Demo’

Step 2: View live auction

Step 3: View live bids: click on the ‘Demo auction’ link in column 1

Step 4: View meters: click on ‘Meters’ button

Step 5: View previous contracts won on auction: click on ‘All contracts’ button

The demonstration has been set up in view only mode in order to provide an illustration of how it works. Customers will be able to load their own details and run their own auctions. Alternatively, they can liaise with the customer service representatives available through chat.

Demonstration of online comparison and switching site for households

We previously deployed a demonstration of Zero Carbon Market’s market for household consumers. This is the online comparison and switching market. The demonstration can be accessed as outlined in the medium article: https://medium.com/zero-carbon-project/zero-carbon-market-demonstration-software-deployed-in-response-to-customer-demand-325cf4fa919e

Next, we will publish an article supporting deployment on the testnet of our smart contract architecture which will support the Energis token economy.

Intense competition from our unique online energy auction

“Our Market provides ‘intense competition’ for business consumers using the online reverse auction, where suppliers undercut each other in a transparent process to win the business.

Second, enhanced transparency is key as we have algorithms comparing a wide variety of offers with various cost-pass through options, all displayed on a like-for-like basis.

Third, we have attracted a large number of suppliers who have grown to appreciate the competitive disciplines, who are permitted to use their own t&cs and pricing structures which have been approved by us; and we have developed deep relationships with them by consistently providing them with quality services over the last 15 years.

Fourth, we run the auction in a flexible way in our consumers interests, so we are not conflicted by our energy supplier relationships. For example, consumers can extend the auction close time if it will deliver better prices.

Fifth, we have designed flexible post-auction mechanisms to ensure best prices secured in the auction can be maintained without having to start the process again. This is particularly important in a wholesale electricity market where extreme intra-day price volatility can be passed through to prices prior to contract agreement.”

Beond’s online green energy auctions track record

Beond has used the software to already deliver the following cost savings and carbon emission reductions for larger well-known clients:

· Knight Frank saved £1,000,000 and 56,000 tonnes CO2/annum www.beondgroup.com/case-studies/knight-frank-case-study/

· Capita saved £400,000 and 59,000 tonnes CO2/annum

· Berendsen saved £2,500,000 and 33,000 CO2/annum www.beondgroup.com/case-studies/berendsen-case-study/

· The Arts Council (including Royal Albert Hall, Southbank Entertainment Centre and Royal Opera House Covent Gardens) saved £175,000 and 23,000 tonnes CO2/annum www.beondgroup.com/case-studies/the-arts-basket/

· Salford City Council saved 13% or £761,000/annum or 14,000 tonnes of CO2/annum www.beondgroup.com/case-studies/salford-city-council-case-study/

In total, Beond has helped their clients reduce CO2 emissions of 300,000 tonnes per annum while reducing their energy costs.

Beond has provided a perpetual licence to the Project to use its online energy market software.
