What have I learned in my 10 years career life?
As from being start-up specialist to MNC marketing & concept manager.
Right after the new year count down of 2019, friend asked what my new year wishes were. That’s the moment I realized I have been working in marketing & business development field for 10 years, since my first full time job as business analyst in New York City in 2009.
I have 10 years of marketing & business development experience both in start-up and multinational corporations in Taiwan, Vietnam and NY, USA.
10 years of career development is an important milestone. It makes the year of 2019 the perfect year to look back where I began, review what I have earned, and pursue the future I want to be.
Vision is important
When I returned to Taiwan in 2010, I joined Wang De Change tea company, which is a pioneer in the tea field with solid traditional tea craft since 1862. Its vision is to articulate Chinese cultures through the beauty of Taiwanese tea craft and tea ceremony. My role was identifying brand concept and developing business through market research, cost-benefit analysis, implementing product campaigns, and member loyalty program. That’s where I started to develop my solid marketing and business development experience. 3 years of marketing experience there gave me the solid base for the next challenges that carries me from Taipei to Vietnam then back to Taipei again, from start-up to multinational corporations, covering brand and retail & operational marketing.
Positive mindset & entrepreneurial spirit
I won the award of young talent of Carrefour Taiwan in 2018. I believe the reason why I won is because I always see myself as an entrepreneur. By having entrepreneurial spirit, I am not afraid to take responsibility and at the same time, I am creative.
When I joined Carrefour Taiwan supermarket in 2015, it was a very newly built business unit that literally had no many rules, and concepts were not clearly defined yet. As for people who have worked for only hyper market business over 30 years in this country, they couldn’t understand and mostly refused to change. I am glad that I could join it in early stage to articulate its concepts internally and externally, most importantly, we have been keeping it growing.
Strong leadership
I have strong leadership qualities, not only showing in leading my own team, but also good at cooperating and being resourceful. Let me quote from my Carrefour French director: “You are the PR face of our supermarket division, always able to articulate strategies and missions, cooperating with internal and external stakeholders to achieve our goals.”
Respect cross cultural environments
I can make quick decisions in the fast-changing business environment and enjoy developing teams, even if teammates are from different backgrounds. For example, I once worked in Vietnam as marketing manager and led 6 marketing executive members. My Vietnamese teammates commented that they appreciate me not only for my well management skills, but also for my respect of their culture.
I see myself as a result-oriented and multi-faced person that is good at articulating strategies and coordinating with cross-cultural functional teams. I can work well independently, but also be a good team player.
Make myself stronger and stronger for next challenges
