The First Sunglasses Company to Offer Crypto as a Payment
Chris, the owner of STRIYKER Premium Eyewear, spends his days thinking about sunglasses and his nights surronded by close friends. In the Fall of 2015, he left a 6 figure salary at a “Big Four” accounting firm in a city he didn’t want to live in. He moved back to Northeastern PA and started STRIYKER. Oh, and he is the first sunglasses company to offer cryptocurrency as a payment option.

Because of his fearlessness, we decided that Chris was the perfect candidate for the first post in our weekly series, Business Built on Blockchain.
1. Why did you decide to add virtual currency payment options to your business?
We know that cryptocurrencies are an emerging form of payment, and we felt it was only necessary to provide our customers with the ability to pay for sunglasses via crypto.
2. How was the process difficult?
It was actually incredibly easy, much less complicated than I thought. Our partner, Shopify, provided an app called Coinbase Commerce which made it easy for us to integrate four of the major cryptocurrencies on our website (BTC, BCH, ETH, LTC).
The entire process was extremely efficient.
All I had to do was install the plug-in on my Shopify store. Shopify and Coinbase made the process extremely user-friendly. It literally took a few minutes.
3. How are the exchange rates?
The exchange rates are the same as the spot price on Coinbase. After Shopify takes their small fee, the remainder is converted to the cryptocurrency in terms of the $USD/Crypto price, depending on which crypto they used to purchase the sunglasses.
4. Have you been receiving positive feedback from your fans about this?
We’ve seen an extremely positive response, especially with Millenials, a target audience we’ve related to well, as I am a Millneial myself. The millennials have been the largest population using crypto, so adding crypto as a payment option felt natural.
One of our customers expressed gratitude for adding Litecoin. He used it and reached out to us only minutes after we added it. He said the process was seamless, fast, and efficient.
5. As a business owner, has enabling virtual currency as a payment option changed your outlook about the future?
Personally, I’ve invested my own resources into crypto. I’m an avid believer in the technology. It felt only natural to add cryptocurrency as a payment option for STRIYKER Premium Eyewear, as I believe the technology will only continue to blossom and grow.
*something cracks* he says “I think I broke my shoulder.” He stands up out of the recliner and begins exercising next to the pool table.
