Meet LCamero: A Puerto Rican Artist’s Journey in Fashion & Art

LCamero is a Miami-based mixed-media visual artist who uses paint and digital mediums to tell the tales of women through the intersection of art and fashion. LCamero, born Lisa Camero, founded her brand that encompasses visual art, fashion design, and photography. Each discipline informs the others. As her visual arts practice continues to grow, her attention to detail, knowledge of fashion, and photographic eye provide unparalleled insight into her ever-growing body of works. However, these incredible expressions of her unique vision have been a long-time coming for this naturally gifted artist.

Lisa Camero was born in New Jersey but raised in Puerto Rico. While other children found joy in toys and dolls, LCamero always had a drawing utensil in hand. Growing up in the countryside of Puerto Rico, LCamero didn’t have many opportunities to explore her desire to create. There were no major city connections or creative outlets to foster her love of art.

As a child, she struggled with being bullied and never feeling she was living out her true purpose in life. That’s why at just 22 years old, she took a massive leap of faith and left her family and friends behind to start a new life in Miami, Florida. She had no money or safety net of any kind to help her along the way, but she knew she was in the right place for a fresh start on her dreams.

The first few years on her own as a struggling artist were tough. She saved her money, worked hard, and crashed on couches while earning her degree in Fashion Design from Miami International University of Art & Design. In 2012 she graduated and attempted to enter the fashion world. Then, still lacking the funds to pursue an internship full-time in fashion, she took a corporate job to make ends meet. Thankfully, that was not the end of her creative ventures.

LCamero started building up her reputation as a skilled artist with LCamero Art. She experimented, letting her interests and experiences guide her as she explored new directions. Minimalism, abstraction, and pop art all had their place in her artistic evolution leading her to her iconic style.

Figurative works are complemented by abstraction, geometry, and color fields. Portraits and depictions of women are accentuated by distinct fashion elements, often with elongated features emphasizing the female form and obscure backgrounds to intensify her subjects.

Being a visual artist for many years, she discovered her love of bold colors, painting, and patterns translated beautifully onto clothing and accessories. Over time that notoriety evolved and eventually led her back to fashion by creating her own line.

This brand allows her to incorporate her artistic works into stunning pieces. That can be worn every day, from patterns and colors inspired by her home in Puerto Rico to hand-painted masterpieces that showcase her incredible skills. These clothes and accessories have been a fantastic addition to her other works as a multi-talented creator.

Despite only being in existence for a few years, LCamero Brand has already made a splash in the fashion world. In addition to launching two successful collections, the brand has also been featured in prominent publications, such as Voyage Miami.

Her playful pieces have also been showcased on numerous runways. Having struggled with her confidence as a child, LCamero ensures the models wearing her clothing represent all body types and backgrounds. She is continually focused on inclusivity and inspiring confidence without fear of judgment.

Her visual art practice then entered the digital media realm of crypto art in March 2021. Here, LCamero translates her approach into hyper-two-dimensional works. She depicts emotive portraits that encompass attitudes and personalities amplified by details such as accessories, makeup artistry, and garments. Moving forward, LCamero is eager to explore relevant contemporary themes and subjects in depth through serial works in her paintings and digital art practice.

“There are so many creative ideas I want to put forward, but I have always felt limited by physical art. Now through NFTs, I can explore my wildest imagination combining both fashion and art,” said LCamero, who highlights reoccurring themes of femininity throughout her work.

Her work reflects the emotions and experiences she has undertaken. She uses her personal journey to produce pieces that accentuate the beauty and strength of powerful women while simultaneously incorporating fashion elements, making a seemingly elite form of creation accessible to the everyday. Her work has gained her esteem in her local community and beyond. She has had featured interviews in publications such as VoyageMIA and Shout Out Miami. In addition, LCamero has been included in exhibitions across the Miami art scene, including a satellite exhibition for the prestigious Miami Basel in 2018.

Now through her upcoming NFT collection, she combines her two passions in one creative endeavor. Dubbed “House of Fashion,” her first NFT collection is set to include 10,000 randomly generated art pieces that celebrate the world of fashion and its impact on society, culture, and personal values.

The mission of this project is to celebrate a world of fashion that influences everything we see and allows us to express our individuality.

To get there, LCamero will bring her audience through her artistic journey as she creates NFTs that aim to blur the lines between the physical and digital fashion space via activations, virtual experiences, online and offline fashion shows, redeemable fashion items, and traditional art.
