The Hero’s Hold — A DeFi Kingdoms Hero Report

Introduction

Well met, adventurer — welcome to The Hero’s Hold! In this series, we track the details about heroes in DeFi Kingdoms, with game news, statistics, metrics, and more!

The snapshot for all of this week’s data was taken on 3/21 at 8am ET.

Welcome to the Hero’s Hold, adventurer!

In this Issue:

  • Heroic Happenings (Game News)
  • The Summoner’s Circle (Hero Stats)
  • The Adventurer’s Guild (Hero Wallets)

So, let’s dig in!

Heroic Happenings

This was another big week for DeFi Kingdoms news as we gear up for the Avalanche Summit in Barcelona and Crystalvale release the following week. Check out some of the major news that came out this week:

Kingdom Studios Announcement

A surprise announcement by FriskyFox on Wednesday evening introduced Kingdom Studios, a formal entity encompassing the core development team.

As the team and scope of the game expands beyond basic game development to the DFK blockchain, merchandise, events, and broader ecosystem growth, Kingdom Studios means the team is clearly in it for the long-haul.

The Perilous Journey Returns

Nine days after they set sail, the nearly 41,000 Heroes that headed out on the Perilous Journey have either returned or met their fate!

The Perilous Journey sets sail!

We’ll have a full breakdown of the results later this week, but as of this morning, 99.6% of Heroes had been claimed, with 22,552 Heroes (55.3%) falling victim to the terrors of the seas!

The rarest Hero to die in the pursuit of glory? Balmod Pyne, a Legendary DreadKnight, who did not return from the journey.

Balmod Pyne (#149456) — RIP

May he and his compatriots never be forgotten!

New Stones and Crystals

With the return of Perilous Journey Heroes, those who didn’t make it left behind a number of new and rare items. We talked about Lesser Chaos Enhancement Stones a few weeks ago when they were first airdropped, but now we have a full assortment of both Enhancement Stones and Attunement Crystals to choose from. To recap:

Enhancement Stones

Enhancement stones are used once at summoning to permanently increase the stats of the summoned Hero. There are nine types of Enhancement Stone (one attuned to each stat, plus Chaos, which chooses a random stat), which come in two varieties, Lesser and Regular:

  • Lesser Enhancement Stone: +4 to the stat, +3% to the Primary Stat Growth of that stat, and +5% to the Secondary Stat Growth of that stat
  • (Regular) Enhancement Stone: +6 to the stat, +5% to the Primary Stat Growth of that stat, and +13% to the Secondary Stat Growth of that stat

These are clearly powerful items that will benefit new Heroes tremendously.

Attunement Crystals

Attunement Crystals can be used during every Hero level up to increase the chances of stats increasing. As with the Enhancement Stones, Attunement Crystals also come in multiple flavors: one attuned to each stat, plus two varieties, Lesser and Regular. Note that Chaos Attunement Crystals are not yet available in-game, but were part of the secret snapshots taken in February.

  • Lesser Attunement Crystal: +5% to the Primary Stat Growth of that stat, and +15% to the Secondary Stat Growth of that stat
  • (Regular) Attunement Crystal: +10% to the Primary Stat Growth of that stat, and +30% to the Secondary Stat Growth of that stat

What’s important to note about these Crystals is that unlike Enhancement Stones, these bonuses to stat growth are not permanent — they only apply during the single level up process. You can also use an Attunement Crystal every time you level a Hero (even the same kind) — there is no limit to their use.

Some other news, announcements, and content from the past week:

Weekly Community AMA

  • DFK Community AMA w/Game Mechanics Team (Writeup)

A few notable takeaways from the AMA:

  • CRYSTAL Airdrops will be coming on March 30, alongside the release of Crystalvale. There will be a period of time between release and before rewards begin for staking to happen.
  • Hapabelle is working on a new type of quest — repeatable like profession quests, that will earn additional XP. It sounds like these quests may be launching soon.
  • Higher level profession quests might not be Hero-level capped, but could involve combat first in order to do them. If there was ever an indicator to level your Heroes — even your profession-only Heroes — this is it.
  • Leaderboard coming soon with periodic competitions for things like collecting items or other mechanics. There will be various kinds to not only reward those with the largest wallets. Prizes could include CV Gen0s, JEWEL, etc.
  • Pets may impact both combat and professions. Most will be a 1:1 bonus, but some pets may provide bonuses to a whole group of Heroes.

The Summoner’s Circle

Let’s take a look at some statistics for all of the heroes that have been summoned so far. With the end of the Perilous Journey, we’ll now need to track both total Heroes as well as living ones. I won’t track both of these in every place, but will try to keep general tabs on them.

  • Total Heroes: 159,257 (+4,499 / 2.9%)
  • Living Heroes: 136,704

Hero Growth

Hero summoning started the week slowly, with a sharp spike when Perilous Journey Heroes returned — likely due to the ~1600 Gen0s whose cooldowns simultaneously became available. The total number of heroes increased by 4,499 (2.9%), while our new metric of Living Heroes begins at 136,704.

Total Heroes (Weekly Change / % Change)
• Mar. 21: 159,257 (+4,499 / 2.9%)
• Mar. 14: 154,758 (+4,234 / 2.81%)
• Mar. 7: 150,524 (+9,788 / 6.95%)
• Feb. 28: 140,735 (+7,433 / 5.58%)

Tavern Volume

Tavern volume similarly spiked mid-week with a rush of deals on returning Heroes. The average number of sales this week was 775, with a total weekly volume of 548k JEWEL — up 12% from last week. The average sale price this week was 99.8 JEWEL vs. 92.4 last week.

Note: As with the other data, the daily numbers represent the 24 hours prior to 8am ET on the listed day.

Hero Stat Breakdowns

Going forward, this section will contain data for living Heroes only — i.e. those not held by the Graveyard wallet.

As expected, the return of 18k Heroes has shifted the level numbers a bit, with Level 1s continuing to decline, and Levels 6 & 7 climbing quite a bit. The release of Moksha runes has also allowed for our very first Level 11s to appear!

Highest Profession Skills

  • Foraging: 21.4 (#1976 / Legendary Archer, Level 11)
  • Fishing: 21.2 (#581 / Mythic Pirate, Level 11)
  • Gardening: 18.7 (#13296 / Common Priest, Level 7)
  • Mining: 17.4 (#72894 / Common Priest, Level 7)

The Adventurer’s Guild

In this section, we track heroes as they’re held in various Harmony wallets. Today’s data is in comparison to Feb. 28, the last time we tracked this data before the Perilous Journey Began.

Total Hero Wallets: 19,553* (+521 / 2.74%)

Note: As of this morning, 320 Heroes were held in custodial wallets (including the PJ Contract), and are not included in this data. The Graveyard wallet is excluded from this data.

Hero Wallet Growth

Hero wallet growth has continued at relative lows, increasing by only 521 over a three week period (+2.74%).

Total Hero Wallets (Weekly Change / % Change)
• Mar. 21: 19,553 (+521 / 2.74%) (3-week interval)
• Feb. 28: 19,032 (+434 / 2.33%)
• Feb. 21: 18,598 (+572 / 3.17%)
• Feb. 14: 18,026 (+493 / 2.81%)

In terms of overall DFK profile stats — recall that these are the number of profiles created in the game, not necessarily all wallets that have interacted with it we saw a wallet growth of around 1% per week. The share of new hero wallets to profiles has remained steady across this period at 15.4%.

Hero Wallet Stats

With so many Heroes burned, especially among top wallets, this week the average number of heroes held per wallet decreased by 4.9% to 6.98 heroes, while the median wallet held steady at 3.

A few key hero wallet metrics

Not surprisingly, the number of Heroes held by the Top 50 wallets declined sharply — by -7.7%, while their share of total living Heroes similarly declined by -5.5%

On the lower end of the spectrum, wallets holding only one hero increased by 0.9%, but the overall share of one-hero wallets nevertheless slipped by -1.8%.

Wallet Rankings

Please note the logarithmic y-axis scales of the charts below, and that this first chart groups wallets holding 100–124, 125–149, 150–199, 200+ heroes. If you have better ideas for how to display this data, please let me know!

Gen0 Wallet Stats

We’re also checking in on Gen0 wallets, in order to keep an eye on potential consolidation.

Total Gen0 Wallets: 853 (-8)

Simply put, the Gen0 metrics this week are a mess as they return from PJ and get shuffled around between wallets. The median also moved back up to 2, and the total number of wallets decreased back to where we had seen it a month ago. Notably, the number of wallets holding 1 Gen0 declined by 19, but we’ll see if that number holds going forward.

A few key metrics for Gen0 wallets

Hero Whale Watch

And finally, let’s check in on our Hero whales. As we noted last week, a number of top holders didn’t send their heroes out, and we can see this reflected below.
