The Hero’s Hold — A DeFi Kingdoms Hero Report

Introduction

Well met, adventurer — welcome to The Hero’s Hold! In this series, we track the details about heroes in DeFi Kingdoms, with game news, statistics, metrics, and more!

The snapshot for all of this week’s data was taken on 2/28 at 8am ET.

Welcome to the Hero’s Hold, adventurer!

In this Issue:

  • Heroic Happenings (Game News)
  • The Summoner’s Circle (Hero Stats)
  • The Adventurer’s Guild (Wallet Stats)

Let’s dig in!

Heroic Happenings

With a delayed patch in preparation for The Perilous Journey and the subsequent release of Crystalvale, it’s been a slightly quieter week for news in the kingdoms. But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a whole lot of excitement for what’s on the horizon!

The Perilous Journey

On Wednesday, Game Mechanics Director Hubert Cumberdale held a live YouTube session to lay out all of the mechanics surrounding the upcoming Perilous Journey event.

In addition to the video, you can read more details in:

The Perilous Journey begins…

The Perilous Journey presents a high-risk high-reward opportunity for players who have heroes to spare, or are willing to risk the few heroes that they have, knowing that many will die in the process. As the tables make clear, the survival chances are low, even with a 3% boost from a Gen0:

Hero Survival Rates for the Perilous Journey

However, the rewards can be substantial — not just the material rewards in CRYSTAL or JEWEL, but the stat bonuses, achievements, and quest lines opened up for survivors. Those that return will receive:

  • A boost of +5 to any three stats chosen by their owner (not stackable)
  • Enough experience (XP) to fill their experience bar
  • A survival achievement which will unlock specific quests in the future
  • Access to a selection of land tournaments only accessible to Perilous Journey survivors
  • Entries into a raffle for 100 Gen0 Heroes
  • An airdrop of CRYSTAL when Crystalvale launches

And the owners of Heroes that don’t return will be awarded:

  • A payout in JEWEL based on level, rank, and rarity
  • A selection of runes based on level
  • Enhancement stones and Attunement Crystals based on the stats, rank, and rarity of the fallen Heroes
  • Entries into a separate raffle for 100 Gen0 Heroes

The full tables of rewards are available in the docs and will be visible in-game. I’ve also added the /pj function to the Discord’s HeroBot to show survival chances and rewards. And handful of other community projects, including DFK Analytics and DFKing have also added similar calculators.

Signups for The Perilous Journey begin on Wednesday with the weekly patch, and close on March 7 at 2pm EST. Heroes will return — or not — on March 16 at 2pm EST, at which point they will be claimable along with all earned rewards.

Good luck to all Heroes to venture forth into the unknown!

In Smaller News…

Some other news, announcements, and content from the past week:

Weekly Community AMA

A few notable takeaways from the AMA:

  • The BYAC collaboration was a Harmony-led initiative, and JEWEL payments to those participating come from Harmony, not DFK. Support for other projects is on the roadmap.
  • Over 50 applications to the Grant program, the first community votes on projects will be coming soon
  • Planned support for in-game internationalization and localization, as well as additional Discord servers for language communities
  • Lots of great discussion on balancing Play2Earn vs Pay to Win, Players vs Bankers/Gardeners, and incentives in general. Highly worth a listen.

Governance Votes

  • The votes on whether to keep the incentivized JEWEL-SUPERBID, JEWEL-MIS, and JEWEL-XYA pools concluded this week. Based on the results, the SUPERBID and MIS pools will be retired, while the Freyala (XYA) pool will be grandfathered in and continue to be incentivized. (For reference: DFK Gardens policy.)
  • The vote on whether Heroes would have votes toward governance also ended with wide support for weighting Heroes at 10 xJEWEL. Many people in the comments voiced support for raising this even further, which may be considered in the future.

And from the community:

The Summoner’s Circle

Let’s take a look at some statistics for all of the heroes that have been summoned so far.

Total Heroes: 140,735 (+7,433 / 5.58%)

Hero Growth

Hero summoning spiked once again this week with the full details of the Perilous Journey, as people summon both to send and to get full value out of heroes before sending. The total number of heroes increased by 7,433 (5.58%), with an average of around 1,060 new heroes summoned every day.

Total Heroes (Weekly Change / % Change)
• Feb. 28: 140,735 (+7,433 / 5.58%)
• Feb. 21: 133,302 (+5,945 / 4.67%)
• Feb. 14: 127,357 (+6,306 / 5.21%)
• Feb. 7: 121,051 (+8,325 / 7.39%)

Tavern Volume

Tavern volume likewise spiked this week for a few days as people started looking for good deals that would maximize Perilous Journey returns. The average number of sales this week was 1,042, very similar to last week’s 1,045. The average sale price this week was 96.7 JEWEL vs. 100.7 last week.

Note: As with the other data, the daily numbers represent the 24 hours prior to 8am ET on the listed day.

Hero Stat Breakdowns

As heroes continue to level up, this chart gets more interesting. Even with all the new summons this week, Levels 1, 2, and 5 are all neck and neck. Level 6 continues to increase significantly, and a few new Level 7s appeared this week. Levels 8–10 are unchanged now that the leveling competition has ended.

It will be very interesting to see how these breakdowns change after the Perilous Journey.

The Adventurer’s Guild

In this section, we track heroes as they’re held in various Harmony wallets.

Total Hero Wallets: 19,032* (+434 / 2.33%)

Note: As of this morning, 1,009 heroes were held in custodial wallets, and are not included in this data.

Hero Wallet Growth

Hero wallet growth continued to slow this week, increasing by 434 (+2.33%) — a new low.

Total Hero Wallets (Weekly Change / % Change)
• Feb. 28: 19,032 (+434 / 2.33%)
• Feb. 21: 18,598 (+572 / 3.17%)
• Feb. 14: 18,026 (+493 / 2.81%)
• Feb. 7: 17,533 (+798 / 4.77%)

In terms of overall DFK profile stats — recall that these are the number of profiles created in the game, not necessarily all wallets that have interacted with it we saw a wallet growth of 1.67% — also a new low. However, the the share of new hero wallets outpaced profiles during this time, and ticked up very slightly to 15.4%.

Hero Wallet Stats

This week the average number of heroes held per wallet increased by 2.8% to 7.34 heroes, while the median wallet held steady at 3.

A few key hero wallet metrics

As with last week, it was a relatively quiet week for hero holding. The share of heroes held by the Top 50 slipped by -4.3% even as they accumulated slightly, but more noticeably, the 2.8% increase in average seems to suggest that larger holders are summoning or purchasing heroes for the Perilous Journey.

On the lower end of the spectrum, wallets holding only one hero increased by 0.5%, but the overall share of one-hero wallets nevertheless slipped by -1.8%.

Wallet Rankings

Please note the logarithmic y-axis scales of the charts below, and that this first chart groups wallets holding 100–124, 125–149, 150–199, 200–299, and 300+ heroes. If you have better ideas for how to display this data, please let me know!

Gen0 Wallet Stats

We’re also checking in on Gen0 wallets, in order to keep an eye on potential consolidation.

Total Gen0 Wallets: 861 (+5)

Interestingly, there was a good deal of small movement among Gen0s this week, with the total number of wallets increasing by five, and the number holding a single Gen0 increasing by 8. Interestingly, the median also moved back down to 1, and we may continue to see that fluctuate a bit in the coming weeks.

A few key metrics for Gen0 wallets

Most of the trades this week only involved single heroes, with BillyBoys (+2), Zenith (-2), and mono (-2) standing out among holders with four or more heroes.

Whale Watch

Finally, let’s check in on our hero whales. This week three names dropped off the list, including multi-week #1 holder DmblDoresNutsack, whose wallet disappeared from hero holding entirely. We suspect these heroes are being held elsewhere, given the 1,000+ heroes currently in custodial wallets.

However, with three names disappearing, we are able to welcome Mange, Natahala3, and Shadowxdrago to the list — all long-time large holders, and last week’s #11–13.

Account Name / Hero Count (Change) / Gen0s
* New this week in bold

  1. leon / 303 (+0) / 8
  2. Pikul / 300 (+0) / 6
  3. ぷでぃんぐ / 273 (+4) / 0
  4. holmes / 245 (+0) / 12
  5. Boek / 240 (+0) / 15
  6. Mange / 239 (+36) / 0
  7. Le Ogre / 239 (+5) / 26
  8. Pr_Belbie / 235 (+13) / 0
  9. Natahala3 / 233 (+30) / 6
  10. Shadowxdrago / 219 (+17) / 5

Total heroes held by Top 10: 2,523 (-90 / -3.44%)
