Creative individuality of masters, their artistic style, first of all is shown in the manner of ornamentation of “kozuly”. In olden times ornamentation consisted of simple elements — dots, crosses, strips, wavy lines, with predominance of white and pink colors. The imagination of national artists creates the infinite number of variants of patterns. Sometimes silhouettes of gingerbreads are entirely covered by icing. Then sugar laces or details are painted over the first layer of icing by icing of another colour. It looks very expressive, when patterns are painted directly on a dark surface of a gingerbread, conforming to its form. The contrast of a brown surface of a gingerbread and festive, colourful ornaments on it creates a wonderful decorative effect.
