In a sort of half-hearted New Years resolution, I thought it might be a good idea to watch more movies. This is month 6. You can follow my regular movie diary onLetterboxd. Last month’s upkeep can be found here: January 2017, February 2017, March 2017, April 2017 , May 2017. June 2017, July 2017, August 2017, September 2017.

It is November 1, at 12:21 and I’m watching the Detroit edition of Hell in a Cell. The New Day have just beaten the Uso brothers with what looked to be an orchestras worth of instruments. Who knows how the match itself will end. This month was a busy one — I helped run a game convention in my hometown with 500+ attendees, which was nice. Now we’re gearing up for our game conference in April of next year, which should be pretty freaking rad.

This month I almost hit my ideal amount for the year — 500 on Letterboxd. Today I will probably hit that number, but right now I’m only at 499 for the year. Speaking of that specificity, here are the movies for the month:

Numbers

This month I saw 53 movies, coming to a grand total of 5034 minutes. This averages out to be 94 minutes per film. The longest film I saw this month was Making a Murderer, which clocked in at 607 minutes. The shortest film was the Vogue I Did It All for the Wookiee: 24 Hours of Love, Lightsabers, and Star Wars in New York City, which was 2 minutes and basically the name is as long as the movie itself.

I Did It All for the Wookiee: 24 Hours of Love, Lightsabers, and Star Wars in New York City

I have seen 7 movies in theaters this month, including Suspiria, The Snowman, The Bride of Frankenstein, Night of the Living Dead, Happy Death Day (twice), and Foreigner. Three of these movies were older films being shown in theaters for the Halloween holiday.

In total this puts me at 536 films, with 499 of them on Letterboxd. This puts me at 49,074 minutes for the year, which comes out to an average of 91.5 minutes per film.

Highlights

This months best movie was a pretty late addition: Suspiria. A cult classic, it’s the kind of luxurious multicolored picture that feels like what Neon Demon thought it was going to be and failed at, only it came out 40 years ago and it is actually good.

Suspiria (1977)

The worst movie that I saw this month was probably The Snowman which was a barely comprehensible thriller starring Michael Fassbender as a character named Harry Hole — a name without irony and in that perhaps it is the most telling thing about this shitty shitty movie that no one should actually see.

Trends

The trend this month was towards horror films. Tis the season and all that. I saw 9 this month including a few horror comedies — What We Do in the Shadows, Happy Death Day, Raw, You’re Next, the Void, The Bride of Frankenstein, the Babysitter, Night of the Living Dead and Suspiria.

The other trend was towards seeing movies in theaters. I always see quite a few in theaters, but this month I activated my Moviepass and that meant that the 6 movies that I saw in theater cost me a grand total of….$10. That can’t be sustainable for the company but who knows.

The Babysitter (2017)

So…I guess I’m for sure going to hit 500 movies this year on Letterboxd. Which is kind of nuts and starts making you really think people are going to think you’re a bit of a weirdo for keeping track of all this information.

If you’re interested in seeing more, you can follow me on Letterboxd and on Twitter.
