User Flows are significant in communicating design to product managers, stakeholders, and developers.
What is User Flow?
User flow is essentially a series of steps a user takes to achieve a meaningful goal, they are used to communicate the intended flow of a user through various pages and actions in an app or website. User flows are another method designers use to define their products and experiences, they can define sections of something abstract or technical from the perspective of the user.
The most important thing about user flows is that they outline the goal your user achieves by completing the flow.
How does User Flow help?
They are the best way to solve the issue of communicating how we want our products to work and how users interact with the products.
They also help us think about our products and the users who interact with them in three simple questions: what is the goal? who is doing it? how do they do it?
The process involved in User Flows
Step 1: what is the purpose of your user flow
Name your flow, a name that describes the goal the user achieves after completing the steps.
Step 2: user goals should head in one direction
User flow works best when we are trying to convey a distinct interaction.
Step 3: user flow represents a complete task to ensure that your product is organized
The scope of each flow should be a single task or a goal for your users, keep your user flow concise.
Do’s and Don’ts
* Don’t be vague instead use more descriptive names.
* Organize them into separate flows.
* Don’t create flow maps to represent a user flow instead create distinct flows.
* Don’t add useless information and don’t miss key information.
* Add the right amount of detail
