In life’s journey, one of the most profound and fulfilling endeavors we can undertake is aligning our intentions with God’s divine will. This alignment brings clarity, purpose, and an enduring sense of peace.

Imagine your life as a sailboat on a vast sea. Aligning with God’s will is like setting your sails to catch the wind of His guidance. When you’re in sync with His direction, you sail smoothly and make progress. But if you resist His will, it’s like trying to sail against the wind, making the journey difficult and exhausting.

However, discerning and following God’s will can be challenging, often leading us to question whether we are on the right path. As our guidebook, the Bible offers a wealth of wisdom and verses illuminating the path to aligning our intentions with God’s will.

Here are the tips that will help you to align yourself with God’s will:

Surrender to God’s Will

This is the challenge of letting go of our desires.

Surrendering our desires and plans can be challenging, but aligning with God’s will is essential.

Matthew 26:39 — “And going a little farther, he fell on his face and prayed, saying, ‘My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.’”

So, surrendering to God’s will is like a tree bending with the wind. Picture yourself as a strong tree, and God’s will as the wind. Surrendering means allowing the wind to sway you in different directions, adapting to the changes and challenges that come your way.

That means, just as a flexible tree is less likely to break in a storm, surrendering to God’s will enables you to weather life’s storms with resilience and grace. It’s about embracing His guidance as the guiding force that keeps you grounded and flourishing, even in the face of adversity.

2 Corinthians 4:8 (NIV): “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;”

One time, I made a prayer that surprised me. I was telling God to allow a life-threatening, ‘imaginary’ problem to take its course. I didn’t struggle to do this. But I asked for the power to overcome it.

I didn’t know what all that meant. But about 2 hours after the prayer, I received a call that my father had been in a lonely house, sick and unconscious for days.

I traveled immediately from miles away to take him to the hospital. No sooner did I arrive and take him to a nearby hospital than some, in conjunction with their cronies, who should mainly support or advise, took over the treatment-related activities.

I was the ‘wrong’ person to handle the process. And later when I offered my animals for sale to help due to lack of cash to handle hospital bills, the ‘supervisor’ angrily shouted at me on the phone, “We need cash, not ‘stupidity!” This ‘outsider’ had contributed a few coins.

No one was available to administer the drugs once I left for the city.

Those in charge of caring for the animals also rejected my attempts to sell my property. Before long, they were all dead. No attempt to seek any help was made despite the availability of the needed resources. They later reported, ‘We were busy.’ But the resources disappeared in the thin air.

Well, if all this is not WITCHCRAFT, what is it?

Reader beware: It’s easy to forgive, but digital books don’t forget.

My story is brief and might not effectively express what happened. But deep hatred developed. It started developing before.

The best way to summarize the situation is this: If the LORD had not been on our side — let Israel say — if the LORD had not been on our side when people attacked us, they would have swallowed us alive when their anger flared against us; the flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept over us, the raging waters would have swept us away (Psalms 124:1–8).

We can conclude it this way:

Romans 12:1–2 — “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”

Seek Guidance through Prayer

  • The power of prayer in seeking God’s will is mighty and undeniable. Through prayer, we can seek His guidance, express our desires, and ask for His wisdom.
  • Surrender your desires in prayer. In your prayers, surrender your desires to God’s more excellent plan.

James 4:3 warns against praying with selfish motives: “When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”

James 1:5 — “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”

Study the Scriptures

The Bible is a wellspring of divine wisdom and guidance. It contains teachings and stories revealing God’s character and will for our lives.

2 Timothy 3:16–17 — “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness.”

Proverbs 3:5–6 — “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

These verses remind us that our trust in God and His Word will guide us along the right path.

Discern God’s Voice

Learning to listen to the Holy Spirit is a great gift. The Holy Spirit often communicates God’s will to us. We must learn to listen attentively to His still, small voice within us.

John 10:27 reassures us: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” As His sheep, we can trust that we will recognize His voice as we draw nearer to Him.

Discernment is a gift. Don’t be like people who try to act smart to prove they have this gift. The simplest way out is to desire this gift, be prayerful, and read the scriptures always. If your heart is clean, your discernment will be accurate. It might look like guesswork, but the accuracy will shock you.

Just don’t act smart.

You will know when evil people parade themselves to you as angels of light. You will know when God is talking.

God can talk through anything. Imagine God used hunger when he wanted to speak to Apostle Peter about the right of the Gentiles to be partakers of eternal life.

God told Samuel he was sending him a man to anoint as king over Israel. Saul’s donkey had to disappear for this to happen. Saul thought he was just out looking for donkeys, but God used this to lead him to his destiny.

Trust God’s Timing

Sometimes, we must wait for God’s timing. Ecclesiastes 3:11 reminds us that He makes everything beautiful in its time.

Isaiah 40:31 adds, “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

Live Out God’s Will

Aligning our intentions with God’s will is not passive; it requires us to take action.

James 1:22 — “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

So, watching your actions is the perfect way to tell whether you’ve aligned your intentions with God’s will.

Think of your desires as seeds you sow in the soil of your life. Aligning with God’s will is like planting these seeds in fertile soil. They receive nourishment, grow, and bear fruit.

If you plant your seeds in rocky or thorny soil, they may struggle to thrive. Aligning with God’s will ensures your efforts bear fruit abundantly.

Conclusion: Align Your Intentions with God’s Will

In the pursuit of aligning our intentions with God’s will, we embark on a transformative journey of faith, trust, and surrender. Through prayer, the study of Scripture, discernment of His voice, and patient waiting, we grow closer to God and align more with His perfect plan for our lives.

As we live out His will, we experience the abundant life He promises, filled with purpose and lasting joy. Remember, as Romans 8:28 assures us, God’s will is always for our ultimate good and a path worth pursuing with all our hearts.
