“Act like you don’t care,” the mystery woman on the phone told him. “Act like you don’t care and everything will come your way.”
“But I do care.” he complained.
“Of course you care but if people see you want something badly they’ll deprive you of the very thing you want most.”
“Why?”
“Because caring about something attaches value to that something and when something becomes valuable to someone then those who have something begin to horde even those somethings they don’t themselves care about.”
“So you’re saying I shouldn’t care if people buy books by Billy?”
“Right. Do this and Operation Enduring Digitarti will rule the world.”
“But what about the girl?”
“You don’t care about her either.”
“I don’t?”
“You don’t care about her either.”
