INTRODUCTION

A handful of activities…

WELCOME BACK to another installment of Ed’s TIIDELab Experience. A series where I take you through my 6 month journey in the Cohort 4 fellowship. If you missed last months article, read it here MY TIIDELab Cohort 4 Experience (2.0)👨🏽‍🚀.

In this article we will cover:

  1. Key Moments
  2. TIIDE-HR — Project Update
  3. Technical Skills Experiences — (3.0)
  4. Soft Skills Experiences — (3.0)

KEY MOMENTS

Brown Bag Session

One of many memorable things that happened last month was our first Brown Bag session, where we visited a reputable company who have paved a way for themselves in their respective industry.

The company we were privileged to visit was FlexiSaf.

Improving Education through Technology solutions
Providing the best school administration, teaching
and learning experience to educators, students and
parents through innovative software and technology. Educational Technology In Nigeria

While there, I learnt the value of problem solving, looking for my niche in the ever changing tech industry, and understanding how to effectively work as a team, no matter the size. I was also able to listen to some of the technical staff there, such as the Backend Team and Frontend Team, who gave insight of the scope of working on large projects and the skills needed to succeed.
I can’t wait for our next Brown Bag session, I know it’s going to be as exciting as the last 🤸🏽‍♂️.

Mentorship Session

Remember the Unveiling of Mentors chapter from my last article, well this month I was able to have a wonderful one on one session with my mentor, Ms. Zeenat Lawal. We introduced ourselves, shared thoughts on my future goals and aspirations, and talked about how future session could be. She was very attentive, insightful, well-spoken, and easy to speak to, which I truly value in a mentor. Thank you Ms. Zeenat Lawal 😄 I’m looking forward to our future sessions.

TIIDE-HR — Project Update

Our project has gone through A LOT of changes, from the UI/UX to functionality implementations.

We worked on our:

  1. Landing page
  2. Sign-In & Sign-Up pages
  3. Dashboard design
  4. Business Profile pages
  5. Leave, Level, and Roll Management pages

That’s a whole 7/11 pages. We equally started working on the functionalities such as storing data locally (as we are yet to link to a database server), and making the pages interact with each other.
In our fourth sprint, we hope to finish up functionality implementation, finalise all page designs, and fix other issues.

Technical Skills Experiences — (3.0)

This month was packed!🤯

So much was going on with little time to practice and internalise all the JavaScript concepts that we were introduced to. We covered:

  1. Binding
  2. Data types
  3. Type conversion
  4. Closure
  5. Conditional branching
  6. Objects & Regular expressions
  7. Local Storage & DOM manipulation
  8. JavaScript best practices & Error handling

It’s a lot isn’t it. Well that’s the TIIDELab experience for you in all it’s glory.
Despite everything we were taught on JavaScript and DSA, I really enjoyed implementing most of these concepts in our team project.

Soft Skills Experiences — (3.0)

Human Centered Design & Thinking Caps
Design Thinking Strategies
Intergenerational Solidarity; Creating wealth for all ages

Those were the topics for last month Friday Meet-ups. Our proficient teacher Mr. aderoju shamsudeen taught us how to consider peoples thoughts, opinions, feelings… when designing anything.

On International Youth Day, we all came dressed in their traditional attire, and were able to have an exciting discussion with Mr. Olasupo Abideen on Intergenerational Solidarity; Creating wealth for all ages. He explained the importance of putting ourselves out there, and selling ourselves.

Some of our tasks during these classes included, drawing our partners face with our eyes closed (I wish I had a picture of what I drew, it made me consider going into arts😂) and designing a mobile device based on our partners feedback. The whole experience was fun and memorable. I learnt how important it is to consider the person you’re working with/for.

Closing Note

This month’s article was a short one for sure. However as mentioned in the beginning, a lot was covered. I didn’t even get to post my latest article on Hashnode, concerning a JavaScript concept I enjoyed using other the past few months. Expect more great things to come over my next 2 months at TIIDELab Cohort 4 Fellowship. I have a very good feeling September would eventful to say the least 😉.

With that I bid you all ADIEU, until the next one! — See you in the next article Experience (4.0) 👨🏽‍💻
