Lighting: choose the right light for your pool terrace

Lighting the pool makes it visible in the middle of the night, which increases security. It also helps to highlight the pool and its surroundings. For a functional and decorative swimming pool lighting without any false note, it is better to avoid certain errors. Voltage, regulations in force, cost reduction, orientation of lighting, choice of colors: every detail counts for a dream pool suitable for midnight baths.

Error # 1: Set a low light to optimize security

It is quite the opposite that must be done if you want to secure the pool during the night. Indeed, a light at ground level does not allow sufficient visibility because it creates shadow areas. It does not facilitate circulation around the pool. Poorly oriented swimming pool lighting increases the risk of accidents. In terms of safety, we illuminate the interior of the pool thanks to the underwater lighting but also the path, the immediate surroundings like the pool house and the pool beach and the trees and various decorative elements as a statue, a basin or a diving board. Thus, nocturnal walkers are not likely to hit them or fall.

Error # 2: Use high volume lighting to make the footbath visible

This is a serious error contrary to the legislation on pool lighting. Indeed, to illuminate the footbath as the interior of the pool, only volume 0 is allowed. It corresponds to a very low voltage electrical current to eliminate the risk of electrocution. For a continuous current, it does not exceed 30 volts and for an alternating current, it does not exceed 12 volts. Attention to opt for a “Protection index” guaranteeing a perfect seal, namely IPx8 recognized by the International Electrotechnical Commission.

Error # 3: Orient pool lighting towards home

This is the best solution to disturb the sleep of the occupants. The lighting of the pool should not, of course, illuminate the house. It is therefore imperative to carefully guide each luminaire, so that the dwelling remains in the shade. The privacy of each will be respected as well as his rest.

Error # 4: Choosing the first lighting that falls to my hand

It would be a shame not to take advantage of the technology in pool lighting. Even if we pay attention to safety standards, not all lighting systems are worthy of the environment. We therefore opted instead for a low energy LED projector, or even for a solar projector. Today, they come in many colors, some of them even work with a remote control for a variation of the intensity on demand and a change of colors according to the mood.

Mistake # 5: Light up his pool with white bulbs

It would be a shame not to magnify the pool with different design lamps the most beautiful effect. Among the pool lighting in the trend, there are for example the magnetic spot, the floating lamp in the form of water lily that moves with the wind or the fiber optic pool. The idea is to give color and charm to this aquatic space to dive in with delight until the end of the night. Find all the mistakes to avoid in your garden.
