Abstemiousness in diet is rewarded with mental and moral vigor;

Today we learn the benefits of self-control, abstemiousness, reason and temperance, i.e. following the principles.

Reform should begin immediately, including

  • Stop overeating
  • Don’t be prescriptive,

One person cannot lay down an exact rule for another. Everyone should exercise reason and self-control, and should act from principle.

Obedience to the laws (principles) of health is an obligation for each of us. Everyone will one day answer to God for our habits and practices, so the big question, and major motivation, is:

“How shall I as an individual treat the habitation that God has given me?”

The reward for self-control inspired by this question is,

  • Vigour, of mind and morality
  • Victory over passions and appetite
  • Less indigestion and other disorders of the gut, maybe IBS and Crohn’s.
  • Accomplish more
  • For writers and speakers: vivid, powerful words that reach hearts
  • For evangelists and pastors: increased awareness and discretion
  • For decision-makers: rapid thinking, new strength from each decision, calm and ordered thinking, a happy, flexible and kind demeanour, resulting in decisions that are blessings because they just, empowering and fair. Wow!

The “suggestion” for sedentary, mind workers (most of us today) and even the physical labourer is:

  1. Simple meals. Only two or three simple foods, nothing rich or luxurious
  2. Only satisfy hunger. No more
  3. Daily active exercise
  4. Reap the benefits listed above, and who wouldn’t want that!
